An update, and an offer for folks who haven't played XCOM: Enemy Unknown. · 8:18pm Aug 11th, 2013

Good afternoon folks!

It seems I have some thanks to offer Eakin for mentioning Stardust in one of his stories, as I have noticed a lot of new readers coming from his story. To everyone who's just joining me, welcome! We can expect another update to Stardust as early as Monday, but more likely Tuesday.

And with the preorder for The Bureau complete, I now have TWO COPIES of XCOM: Enemy Unknown available to give away, plus one copy of each DLC. I am aware that a few of my readers don't have the game. As such, if some folks would like a copy I can give them out.

Now, I have one condition and one warning that goes with this offer.

The one condition I have is that, naturally, you must not already have the game. I'm offering this so someone who isn't familiar with XCOM: EU can experience it. :D

And my warning is this: XCOM: Enemy Unknown is a -very- unforgiving game. If strategy games aren't your preferred game then this likely won't be for you. If you find yourself getting frustrated easily, this game won't be for you. This game will MAKE YOU RAGE if you have bad luck or you make one mistake.

Now, if I haven't scared folks away with that, feel free to post!

Edit: Shoggoth's suggestion is valid. Rather than have it be first come first serve, it might be best to institute a raffle instead. Once I iron out the details on how to get that started and we get some participants, I'll get those sent out. :D

I played the original turn-based X-COM waaaaaay back when. Real-time tactical games are not my cup of tea, but I liked the original very, very much. If I don't have to micromanage every single member of a mission team in real-time under fire, I'd be interested in a copy.

I was happy to! You're doing some great work, and you deserve to be recognized for it.

Also, I preordered The Bureau, like, fourty-five minutes ago. So let me add that I have my own extraneous copy of all the XCOMs and Spec Ops: The Line just burning a hole in my pocket...

Consider them up for grabs as well.

I never played any of the games, just heard of them. I always wanted to play it.
Anyways, I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

I will add in that this game, though technically easier than the original, had a first patch after release with the patch notes; "After popular request, lowered the difficulty of easy mode."

It's a genre of game from the early years of gaming when people expected their games to beat them over the head until they improved.

Though I suggest those of you giving copies away to new victims fans make some sort of raffle or something.

So for those of you who own XCOM: Enemy Unknown, it looks like there's going to be another DLC released called Enemy Within. I think I'll wait for it to be released to play through XCOM again.

I also recently picked up the beta version of Xenonauts, which is very much X-COM: UFO Defense redone. Not bad, but still very unfinished, but fans of the original rookie slaughter might want to take a look.

You've convinced me to buy it. I'm a sucker for hard games.

Although I certainly wouldn't complain about a gift, *cough cough* But shameless begging aside, one way or another I will play this. As long as it isn't another Starcraft clone (and from what I've heard it's not), I can get into it.

Wait wait wait preorder the bureau instead it'll cost you 5 bucks more but you'll get EU and the bureau and the other xcom games.

I'm downloading the demo right now to see if this is something for me.

So, is a comment here an entry into the raffle or will the actual raffle come later? 'Cuz I'm definitely interested.

If you're interested, post your intent here! So long as you don't own the game already, and you're up for a brutally difficult strategy game, you can join!

1285523 Well, then I'd like to express my interest. The demo was fun and I'd love to play the real game.
Actually, how does this gifting work? Is it over Steam?

What's the fun in easy games anyway? Surely it can't be as tough as Dwarf Fortress or I Wanna be the Guy...

The x-com series is hard, that's why I love it.(interested)

Make it a "What if" Contest. Have the contestants pick a pony and write a "What if" alternative to the first chapter of Stardust. Then you pick the winners and feature them as extra chapters in Stardust.

I wanna see what the fandom can come up with. Meanwhile, I gotta go play Classic Impossible...and fail...again.

I've never played an XCOM, but I have watched some people on youtube play it and it seems amazing. It looks hard as hell but I think I'm up for the challenge

We can expect another Xcom as early as Monday, but most likely Tuesday.

*Checks calendar*

IT'S WEDNESDAY! HE MUST'VE DIED! PANIC!!! :raritycry:

I really would like a copy please. I never played XCOM Before.

Arad, I am interested in being included in the raffle. Please put my name on the list.

Once again, awesome story.

HI, I'm interested on enter in the raffle, it seem this is a hard game like Fire Emblem series , but with random generated characters.
