She says her name is Pinkie. · 1:56pm Jun 8th, 2013

Man, have I had a crap afternoon. There's something incredibly frustrating about being constantly fed bullshit by people who are completely and utterly incompetent who resort to lying and deceit to cover their own asses. In the end, you get pissed, and things magically get done. One relocation later, and here we finally are, in an apartment that isn't absolute rubbish.

Phew. Okay. Calming down.

Thankfully, I'm not the only one having a rough day, eh?

Yesterday marked the beginning of a new chapter, quite literally, in the Chromosome literary archives. Maybe more of a footnote but... whatever. You get my drift. I've been working on it for a while now, in a trance of trembling saxophone solos and mournful guitar solos, and it's done now. And all it took was axing off a pink horse. Not a bad deal, eh?

I'm talking about Pinkie Pie is Dead, of course, a foray into the noir cultivated by a possibly unhealthy recent obsession with Sin City and Max Payne. Some would say it was a natural choice of genre given my uh... more purple tendencies. Actually, it turns out that noir is more about what is not said rather than what is, as I've had more than one person remind me while backhanding me with my rough draft. Many of you probably aren't interested in taking a look into said fic because well, let's face it, the title doesn't exactly promise a magical world of butterflies and rainbows and Apple Dash. But come on, if you're here and expecting that sort of thing, then either I haven't been doing my job right or you folks aren't reading very closely, huh?

Hopefully, those of you who've read it are on edge. Ponyville has been violently upset in a violent flurry of bloodlust that has robbed it of laughter. A solitary detective looks on and swears to find the killer. And whether he likes it or not, Equestria watches and waits to see what will happen. The time-tested murder mystery is underway. The best part? The entire story is prepared and set.

That's right. The "incomplete" tag is a ruse, as I've stated before. The story is fully written out and being edited as we speak. So same bat-time, same bat-channel, another piece of the puzzle gets dropped into your laps for you to hopefully devour. No Air here, folks. I'm aiming for constancy and that's what I hope to deliver to you guys. Consider this my apology present for my extended holiday. I do hope you'll enjoy it.

With that, I reckon a new chapter just might so have come out while I was busy talking! Now, let's get back to ending on a note of adorable, so allow me to shamelessly drop this little cutie that I drew for Noble Cause a while back!

Have a nice day, lovelies.

Our fandom in a nutshell.

Interestingly enough I had been writing something dark and I had asked a few complete pony loving strangers what they thought of the premise. A few loved it, but a good handful quite honestly told me that they wouldn't read it simply because it strays way too far from the original premise and appeal of the show. I actually found that to be a refreshingly honest bit of feedback rather then 'Um...it's good.'

Those of us that have been in the fandom a long-ish time (particularly the fanfic area) have probably come in with said attitude or something similar. Why would I go out of my way to pony fic's to get an adventure, action, or dark fix? It's silly but pony is perfectly fine for that stuff, just not everyone is willing to accept it.

I can't really blame people for coming to read causal comedy and feel good stuff (bleh). For whatever the feedback is worth, I personally really hate the noir genre, not the dark feel of the story. I've given it it's chances (edited this: story for 8 chapters.) and I've just never liked any aspects of it.

YES! I'm going to go read the new chapter now! I absolutely LOVE this story!

I like the way you write your stories, no matter the genre.

Funny considering I was just chatting with a few folks about the same thing. Yeah, a lot of people are incapable of separating pone from the cutesy nature of the show and the engrained atmosphere. It's a damn shame, too, because the kind of themes and storylines that can be explored with those limitations are... well, limited.

D'aww, thanks!
Your avatar is adorable by the way.

Indeed. You sir, have made my day.

*squees and blushes*

what kind of job would that be? supervisor of some sort?
and dat relaxing music...

i for one, will read anything whit pones in it.
but yeah, i can see how some people would not even touch cetain genres whit a mile long stick.

Good, heart warming innocent ponies? You must really not know who I am then:ajbemused::rainbowlaugh:

Tell me about it, seems the fandom is mostly focused on very cutesy and "safe" things, leaves a lot of dark writers, well, in the dark. I have love of darkness so it makes it difficult to move onto something as nice and safe as comedy and not for it to contain certain dark themes. Thus most of my work has gone relatively unnoticed, although that may be down to my style of writing as well, which takes cues from Poe, Lovecraft, Machen and Dunsany. most of the comments section consists of a few solid fans which I am able to communicate with, so thankfully its not completely emaciated.

Still, its hard to get noticed if you focus in that direction.

Then again, I do apply cosmic horror to a world filled with happy, tolerant ponies and watch as there utopian perspective on the universe begin to wither away like a dying tree, only to be replaced with rampant nihilism and madness...

Maybe that has something to do with it...

Still, you fic seems to have garnered a fair few people so you are doing pretty well, be pleased with what you have I would say, its pretty good response for a dark fic.
