It's the obligatory new year blog post.

And yes, I am posting this at around midnight on new year. I have a nasty cold, so I decided to disobey nurgle's one command and stay home.

    Just for kicks

I'm mucking around with Lulu for a work-related project (very boring stuff) and thought I would do a quality test with something fun.

    The odd things

I've just been reading through old comments on my scraps story, after publishing yet another chunk from the ancient cutting room floor. It's remarkable how many of the commenters are still around - but also how many logged off for the last time, soon after making their last comment there.

    But in brighter news

While I'm not making any promises about any particular project here, I am actually writing again. I figure if I write enough of something, some pony words might drop out somewhere along the line as well. You never know. What I'm working on at the moment is essentially a re-write of a story I read a long time ago; an old pulp sci-fi tale, about a spaceship that manages to get lost in the

Rednecks get all the best music · 12:08am Feb 28th, 2013

I am not kidding. There's this particular sort of music, the sort that tends to get labelled as "redneck" or whatever. You know the sort, all happy guitars and bluegrass influences and ballads about how the south is just so... southy. Just think about it for a moment. Start with Sweet Home Alabama and work your way through all those famous tracks. Listen to it. Absorb the melodies.

Hell yeah.

You know why they get all the best music? I discussed this one with the wife just today and we came to the conclusion that these people do not pretend to be anything other than they are. They are exactly all you see. I guess they're honest, as far as humans can be honest, and that's why their music rocks the goddamn world.

In other news I just scrapped the current chapter of No Room For Regret and started again from scratch (hence the tagging - hi watcher type peoples!). It was awful, and the awfulness is why it's taken so long to arrive - I'd started hating what I was writing and it was showing. Mechanical descriptions, no life, no love. Just lots of he said, she said, they did, sigh sigh sigh sigh.

So that's about 5000 words consigned to the oblivion of the scraps bin. The new version will be better and if I'm right it won't take that long to appear either.

Hopefully...

Sorry to hear you scrapped it. Oh well, have some Blue Grass Green Day in commiseration.

Why did it take you nearly five thousand words of writing something you didn't like before you decided to scrap it?

....Your welcome. :ajsmug:

871792 I'm stubborn.

That's not just stubborn, that's like.
... Something that's really stubborn!

Sweet Home Alabama has been played too much for me to like it. It is a good song but I just can't listen to it all the way through.
However, I like these song for their long guitar solos.

chewing gum in the carpet stubborn?

I can't get enough of Free Bird, but it felt cliché. Seems they all are. :pinkiehappy:

871790 Ok that's just genius. :pinkiegasp:

And when it comes down to it, everything is Blues with a faster beat...

871820 Mmhmm. When I'm thinking of jacking something in I go to the bitter end just to be sure I was right.

I'm going to allow myself to feel a little pride that you mentioned something related to Kentucky, even if you didn't mention it directly. And I think the reason I've found for bluegrass being the way it is, is because it's just music for entertainment purposes. What I mean by that, is it's played when people get together just to have a good time. The music places a heavy focus on the audience, in that you know you're playing it right if people are clapping along, and there's smiles in the crowd. I love my family gatherings, because everyone brings their guitars, one uncle brings his banjo, and my other uncle brings his harmonica, and we have a hell of an awesome time. Don't know if I really got my point across there...basically the music is just for people to dance/sing/clap along with. The focus of the music isn't sales, deep messages in the lyrics, or popularity. It's about having a good time while playing, and seeing everyone else around you have a good time.

871866 LOVE THAT SONG SO MUCH
(and the movie is freaking awesome as well)

Don't know if this counts.

How could you guys miss out on Mumford and Sons?

This is what banjos were MEANT TO BE. :rainbowwild:

Green Grass and High Tides doesn't get as much attention as I think it should.
