    UK Elections

    Congratulations, Brits.

I was rooting for the Elmo cosplayer, but the Trump cosplayer seems nice. The tweet salt is quite fantastic, gonna mine me some for a while.

    The Outer Worlds

I got the game because it looked like the Fallout fix I needed. Obsidian, who made New Vegas, made it. It looked like Space Fallout and had a lot of similarities. Waited for the Black Friday sale, then grabbed it for $48. Thanks for the holiday, you turkey-eating Americans.

Blogging · 10:49am Feb 25th, 2013

Well, I suppose I shouldn't waste one of this site's many features. I've never tried my hand at blogging before, figuring that it was better suited for people who have a lot of interesting things to say (or at least think they do), but I think I can have some use for this blog maybe more as a source of updates that aren't the chapters themselves for one thing. Alright...

The Upheaval Series - February's been a terrible month for me. Lots of graduate school work piling in leaves precious little time for eking out a chapter. Combine that with my computer breaking down for nearly two weeks. As I go into more chapters of Reckoning it's becoming clearer and clearer to me just how much I had decided to bite off when I decided to write a story that includes all of the mane six with their own arcs. Breaking Point was just as it says in the title, a breaking point. Reckoning is really where the pieces start flying in various directions. The amount of writing still left to do is well...quite intimidating. I'm quite game to push on and finish the story, but Reckoning has been an eye-opener for me.

The Show - I...didn't like the finale. It's so frustrating because I wanted so much to love it. I was ambivalent about the idea of alicorn Twilight, but I loved the fact that the show was willing to play around with its status quo. I wanted to see alicorn Twilight as an opening to a lot more possibilities. It can still be, but it hasn't gone off to a great start. I'm hoping that it will get better during later episodes because I really want to get on board with this development. As it is, however, I just don't like it. Perhaps I'll elaborate some more at some point.

On including season 3 canon in the fic - First of all, it's impossible. If I tried really hard and did a little retconning, I can actually work in the Crystal Empire/Ruled by A King/Behaves like a City episodes. I can't do a thing with alicorn Twilight. Second, I made a conscious decision even before the start of season 3 that I was going to ignore anything past season 2 (which I said in the comments section at EqD).

:pinkiegasp:
he speaks!!!!

love the series btw visiden
great piece of literature:twilightsmile:

and...take your time with it

i'd much rather have a story come out slowly with plenty of quality
then have it rushed out and become shit

EDIT: also, don't be afraid to make it a three-parter if you have to

"eragon" was supposed to only be 3 stories, and that turned onto four

it doesn't hurt to add a new story act into it, if you run out of space in the current one

863998 My exact same reaction.:pinkiegasp:
I admit I was upset at first, but now I'm not sure what to think about alicorn Twilight. I guess I'll just have to wait until season four starts.

i choose to have faith in the writers

i actually liked the finale....a lot
and i'm indifferent to alicorn twilight atm

here's my way of thinking on the matter (at least until i see what they've done with season 4)

if twilicorn reverts to unicorn - epic
if twilicorn stays twilicorn - epic

Yeah, I kinda suspected we had come to a point where you were going to have to jump ship from canon.

:pinkiegasp::pinkiegasp::pinkiegasp:

VV posted a blog?! What twisted sorcery is this?!

I must say that I share your thoughts about the season finale. The episode itself was okay, maybe a bit rushed, but okay. What I really dislike are the repercussions the episode entails.

I have worked (and I still do!) on a story since after the season 2 finale and the canon that one could become an alicorn ruins it completely. Therefore I'm going to simply disregard anything that happened after the royal wedding

Upheaval is perfect as it is, I wouldn't try to force season 3 canon into it. It's a FANfiction after all, you don't have to stick to any rules.

Hey VV, thanks for the progress update.

Never worry about not sticking to canon, your story was inspired by the world and the characters, and that stays no matter if this events are different.

Many stories will need to ignore alicorn Twilight in order to keep making sense for now. I haven't discarded un-alicornication (woot inventing words :pinkiehappy:) may happen next season.

Anyway, story is really really awesome, thanks for writing it. Take all the time you need to update.

and lo the great Visiden came down from his high mountain cave to speak with us mere mortals...I joke

don't give up on Reckoning, we'll accept any update schedule, and please don't sacrifice quality for speed or brevity

I'm of the same opinion about the show, very cautiously optimistic

don't worry about including season 3 canon into Upheaval, you've created your own world, so now it's the job of new canon to fit into your world because your world stands on its own with existing canon, also you (kinda) made a promise earlier so you should keep it

do hope you'll talk to us more!

like a couple of others have said: he speaks!?:rainbowderp:
i hope the next month is less terrible for you. to bad to hear that you didn't like the finale much, i feel like they just included the really good scenes in a movie, time wise several days (possible around 2 weeks) must have passed between twilight noticing her friends state and helping them (to much had happened with the crops for example), and then again, several days between alicornification and coronation. they say that we bronies can interpret that episode as the first in a three parter, meaning that the next two episodes (the first two in the next season) are gonna be about this as well.

I know writing good stories is really challenging. That is usually why I never write any of my ideas to completion. I just don't love the ideas enough to commit to them. But Breaking Point has got to be my favorite series of all time. The story is so deep. Everything that happens is believable in the universe with all the characters being multi-dimensional.

You probably could work in several of the new development but your story is so good I say do what you want with it. Or at least set it up so the story could take place between season 2 and 3 but don't sweat details like trying to work in season 3 cannon at the expense of the story. Breaking Point is way too awesome, and that someone has made an audio version has basically made my life complete.

...you mean it's not an AI that creates the chapters and then randomly updates it!? :pinkiegasp: :pinkiecrazy: :derpytongue2:

I do understand the feeling that your going through at the moment. I've gone through that many times myself. Just keep plugging away when you can but don't kill yourself trying to get them out or burn yourself out... alright?

And awwwww... you didn't like the final? Well to each their own. Personally I really enjoyed it. Sure it was a bit... alright more than a bit, really quick and kinda rushed but overall I really enjoyed it. Would have preferred it as a 2 parter but... I at least got a musical :twilightsheepish:

864027 I think they made the finale so unique and rushed because that kind of situation would feel rushed to Twilight too. She goes from librarian unicorn to princess alicorn overnight, with no expectation. I've heard that the finale is actually the first part of a three parter, with the premiere of the fourth season continuing where it left off... I'm looking forward to this, and besides, season four means more Daniel Ingram music. :pinkiehappy:

Ah it's nice to see you come out from behind the mask Visivis! You're stories are great don't worry about trying to squeeze in season 3 canon into your story. What you have is very good, as I'm sure many others who read upheaval will agree, and I think you should just focus on the world vision you have painted for us and stick to your own plan. Also, focus on your graduate work first, writing second. I don't want you to ever give up on your story but when life gets busy, you gotta prioritize properly you know?

Hey, you finally made a blog! I was waiting for this day. I'm so proud.

All joking aside, I really didn't expect Reckoning to fit in season three canon anyway, and if it did then I'd have called it blatant unnecessary shoehorning. One of my only real complaints about Breaking Point was that it at one point started randomly throwing in references to the events of season two, seemingly for no other reason than to stay "current," and it felt intrusive and out of place. I'm thinking particularly of when Discord and Fancypants both showed up and didn't really do anything, other than indicate to the audience that season two had already happened and just hadn't been referenced by any of the characters until that point.

Of course, you've since proven with the sequel that you were going somewhere with it and actually had some good ideas that made use of elements of season two canon, so in retrospect I don't blame you, but I'd still rather we didn't go through the same thing again with season three.

Oh hey there :)
slow updates – hey, take your time, this is your story :D
as for making it fit the season three... screw season three. It was fun, but it doesn't match your world in any way. Upheaval created its own rich world and let's stuck with it, any nod towards the canon is a nice bonus and nothing more in my eyes.
Not to mention the general difference between your alicorn princesses – immortal god-like beings from another world and the show's alicorns – unicorns with wings that can be made at Celestia's whim.

As for the season three finale... lets hope that is is indeed just a prologue for a two-parter in season 4, or I'll be really disappointed.

So, what are the plans for Reckoning? Are we going for 30 more chapters or is this “book” going to be finished soon and a third one will start?

864355
yea, i've heard the three parter rumors as well

we'll just have to wait and see won't we?

864968 Yup! Either way, I can hardly wait! :pinkiehappy:

Egh, not a huge deal you are going to have to jump from canon in this case. When you have a long story with an epic storyline like Breaking Point, its just going to happen.

My dear Visiden,

Your doing a damn fine job, if it takes until the end of the world, I/We are prepared to wait. In the great words of Gaben..."These things, they take time"...

I must confess, I haven't read Reckoning yet. Something to do with me wanting to wait until it's finished (hence no music)...but I realise now....that's a very silly concept and I shall begin right away.

By the way, doing the Blog, that's pretty cool...I approve :)

Keep going, don't stop but take your time...

Ps..February is always a horrible month :(

It goes without saying that the Upheaval series is a tremendous labor of love. You've managed to take something simple and create a vivid and fascinating universe filled with interesting characters. With that being said "real" life should always come first, especially when it involves education.

Besides the Upheaval fanbase is probably one of the most chill Internet communities I've been a part of.
So please take your time and continue the story at your own pace, I don't think your fans would have it any other way
