    The Little Strand That Crosses

The last four years seem like such a blur now, don't they? There was a brief glimpse of clarity in 2020 and then our consciousness was jerked clear into the in-between—disconnected from the gift of life but clearly still present on this side of the page. Will that change? Yes, but maybe not. The rain doesn't stop but sometimes we don't mind being wet. Let's talk about it.

    Yearly Birthday Update?

Well, it's somewhat of a tradition to pop up once a year to proclaim I'm not dead and give an update now, right? Well let's do it then.

The Little Strand That Crosses · 2:54am January 24th

The last four years seem like such a blur now, don't they? There was a brief glimpse of clarity in 2020 and then our consciousness was jerked clear into the in-between—disconnected from the gift of life but clearly still present on this side of the page. Will that change? Yes, but maybe not. The rain doesn't stop but sometimes we don't mind being wet. Let's talk about it.

Ah, the graveyard of broken dreams that is an older author's story list. It can be depressing to see all the tarnished epitaphs on the stories that never got to be fully realized. The dreaded incomplete tag haunts my dreams and hangs like a bad omen over my desire to write something new, like violently-acquired bones hanging from the tree limbs on the trail of creation. I will have to admit they've deterred me. In the beginning, I avoided my longer ideas until I felt the time was right, when I knew I'd be able to in a healthy place to complete them. I've been on this site for 11 years and change now, can you believe it? My biggest regret is undoubtedly my reluctance to start on my little projects. In my aging state, I now would've preferred I'd given my children the gift of life, even if it was cursed to be a short one with longing and regrets, rather than doom them to the eternal void of the theoretical.

In 2014 I almost started a Minecraft crossover fic. The girls would've had The End start invading their world with void magic and they'd have to go through trials and tribulations to cross through to fight the ender dragon. Absolutely wild stuff from teenage me and I do so wish I had something tangible to reminisce upon, with this idea and so many others. Should I start some of them up again? Well, unfortunately for all of us that live within the dreaded confines of the present most of these story ideas don't have Sunset Shimmer in them and likely will be forever chained in the dungeon of my idea list.

For now though, I do have grand plans for the future. All of my stories, except for one, have distinct endings in their outlines. The honor of an ending is not one many of us get to know before it happens, but I can tell you that despite the terror of the years, Starting from Scratch, Some Mistakes are Forever, and Odd One Out WILL be completed. The only way this will not happen is if die horribly in an unforeseen accident before I can accomplish this. You'll notice Little Stars is unfortunately not among this list, and that is primarily because I started that story just to write as an eternal break of Dazzling cuteness and occasional angst, so an ending nor an outline was ever made. Will there be more chapters of it? Perhaps, but as of right now, there's not a planned ending.

I've also committed to one more longer story to be released this year. Eight years in the making and one depression-inducing failure of an attempt, but I am dedicated to making sure this idea rises as my crowning achievement on this site. Ten years of writing practice and this will be the one I pour everything into to try to make my final mark. I am excited enough about it to share the cover I commissioned for it. Beyond that, only real 2016 fans are gonna know what's up.

The astute among you will notice the word "final" amongst that paragraph. No, we're not breaking up, but my time treating fimfic as a primary center for my writing efforts has come to a close. It honestly came to a close in 2021, with a funky sort of depression stage from 2016-2019, but it's likely time to make it official. I have no plans of exiting the fandom or anything that official. I still love Sunset to death and always will, but my contributions to her pool of fics on this site will likely now just be the occasional lewd or one-shot as it strikes my fancy instead of any continuous or longer projects. I mean realistically nothing much is going to change from how things have already been for years, but I'm finally going to be pivoting to my original fiction in hopes of getting a writing career off the ground. Before that, though, I am going to stick to my word of finishing the mentioned fics, as well as putting out the new project.

I hope you guys can still enjoy the work, for those of you that are left. Apologies for the esoteric ramblings, as I have forgotten how to properly interact with others at this point. Thanks for reading.

Keep going

You do whatever you feel you need to. I have always loved your stories and I hope you keep writing from your heart.:heart:

Best of luck to you, Holy. I wholeheartedly hope you succeed in completing all of the stories you want to bring proper closure to, as such a task -in my opinion- is arguably the most important one to embark on when the time to do so finally comes sailing by.
Glad I finally came back to this site just in time to catch ya. It's nice to hear from you again, man.

Best of luck to you. Hope you're able to see your goals through to the end!

Best of luck and I truly hope you succeed 🤗.

I’ve been re-reading a lot of your stuff that I once came across all over again and new stuff (not realy new because I dipped into my own writing and not finishing stories period). Thanks for every word you’ve ever wrote here and every word you will write elsewhere. You can realize anything you’ve thought about doing.

It can be sad to hear that an author is stepping out of being active in a fandom, but it's also just something that happens with time. With everything that's gone on over the years, it's great that you took the time to evaluate things, and taking the time to tell the people who follow your work what you've decided to do going forward is appreciated.

Best of luck to you. Whenever you happen to have things for us to read, I'll still be happy to check it out.

I'm so glad Some Mistakes are Forever is getting a closure. I haven't read the other stories but now I'm going to. And, of course, I'm looking forward to your magnum opus on Fimfic.
As sad as it always is to see a beloved writer announce they're moving on from the site, it's understandable. Nothing in this world lasts forever.
Best of luck, Holy, with reaching your goals.
It was a pleasure.

Well, it's less a dramatic "Bon voyage! I am leaving forever." and more of me making official the pace that I've been working at since 2021, which is like 2 or 3 one-shots a year when the mood strikes me. Like I said I still love Sunset and check boorus for art and poke around the site all the time, but I just don't foresee myself starting any more longer fics here like I did in 2020 and probably won't increase my 2-3 blog posts per year either. It essentially already happened three years ago in that depression wave but I suppose I feel less guilty if I make it more official in terms of what to expect.

Thank you for reading! I am surprised there's anyone still poking around the old catalog

The time certainly does have a funny way of disappearing before your eyes, like wisps on the wind, doesn't it? You get close to finishing a story, take a break, and look back to realize four years had suddenly passed by. Though as they say, better late than never. Even if you don't get your 2015 levels of attention, it likely means more that you put something out to the world than kept it inside forever.

Thank you so much for the support!

A little late, but...Best wishes for everything! Great to hear that things are going well and you're going to do something bigger. Remember that you always have friends here to support you whenever!

It'll be sad to not see any new stories here but I'm happy to hear you have continuations planned for most stuff here. I'm looking forward to it.
