Melodrama aside…FIMFetch seems to be purging all traces of foalcon from its site. Stories from the most prolific writers are nowhere to be seen, me included. I did not okay this. Nobody else I know did either. If you want your favorite filly fiddling stories backed up, now would be a good time to look into doing so yourself. The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if FIMFic and Fetch are collaborating to push a secret rules change disallowing that kind of content…the rational part of me knows that’s probably not the case. But in any event, this does underscore the importance of file control; if you don’t have at least three copies under your majority control, one of which must be offsite, you’re leasing your data from fate!
I suppose while I’m here an update on my healing is also due, and only fair. Days are better for the most part but still struggling thru the disability process and trying to find therapy that I can’t quite afford yet. Nonetheless I’ve got some stories planned for the next time I feel creative; one a sequel, and one that might even be nonpony! Stay tuned and stay careful ya’ll.
PS: I know fimfic/fetch are entirely within their rights to not host foalcon. Not gonna yell at them for removing it; they let me use their servers for free after all. Just kinda making sure the word spreads.
Everything seems normal to me.
Edit: Oh, FimFetch.

Yeah, Fetch. Fimfic still seems fine.
I am also now considering the possibility that this is a glitch…but if it is, it’s one hell of a precise glitch lmao
5764608
Doesn't seem to be a glitch. Looks like mine are also removed from there.
5764609
Yep. Guess there’s nothing to be done then other than battening down the hatches on my data backups.
5764610
Yeah... At least it's not fimfiction itself, though that does leave fewer avenues to find content after an author removes their stories.
Well I've given the guys at ThePonyArchive a heads up, so hopefully they can still preserve whatever fimfetch deletes.
Everyone with enough disk space and network data should probably be keeping a copy of the Fimfarchive. Latest release is from December: Fimfarchive 20231201 released!

Probably a requirement of the hosting company, which was probably caused by a legal issue in whatever country it's hosted in. EU and just about every non-US English-speaking country has laws about that sort of fiction.
Do you know if the Wayback machine can access the older archives?
Got word from another writer that it's not just foalcon. Apparently the NonCon tag is also no longer being archived by Fimfetch.

The guy who runs FiMfetch also runs Bronytales, a Brony Minecraft server catering towards children (note the link to its website under the Social section of FiMfetch's footer), which has incredibly strict rules, even for its Discord (a platform you need to be 13+ to be on), under the idea that it would be a serious problem if a teen were to ask a parent about something they heard there. And guess what's in the rules for Bronytales?
Yep, a layman's complete misunderstanding of US law, but it gets worse:
That's right, they'll permaban anyone found to be involved with foalcon. I in fact was on the server once, and someone mistakenly thought I made foalcon art, which very nearly got me banned just from badly-cropped postings of my words!
While on that server, political discussions with him were the most telling about his views, and I distinctly remember when he defended the Biden administration firing people for past pot use...after lying that it wouldn't matter when it took them on early on. Dishonesty for political gain and throwing out your allies once they're no longer as useful? Totally worthy of defense. Granted, he seemed like he struggled to understand the details of it, but that's because, in general, he doesn't read closely into things...at one point, he tried to fix up the server rules, and literally said the basis for whether something was okay to post in SFW channels was whether something would be "obscene" or not under US law...which I had to explain to him would imply that most porn would be postable.
He's generally a pretty understanding person in person of course, but his deference to the law, combined with difficulty handling specifics, especially when things agrees with his personal views, means I fully expect that he was happy to have an excuse to go from archiving everything to having particular conditions (that would survive basic public scrutiny) under which he could slice things out.
The stories no longer show up in search results, by the way, and the site has nothing stated about this policy anywhere. It's clearly meant to make it hard to even notice anything's missing.
Well that sucks, whats the point of an archive if you won't keep the archive complete? I just wanted to find out what happened to Scout Feather, which lead me to an old blog post of yours, and instead all I'm finding out is that I can't even use fimfetch to read all their fics anymore
FIMFetch has officially become the worst website of them all now.
Their sole purpose was to archive deleted stories from this website no matter what they were about... That was a lie after this stupid purge. Congrats FIMFetch, you became the worst site of them all, and I don't know if there is any other website I can turn to to view the complete catalogue without the fear of stories getting deleted!
fimfetch has made a list of every user, on derpi, fimfic and other sites and its getting them banned from discord

Yeah, got linked that just before bed last night. It’s definitely a list…and an incomplete janky one at least. Somehow they entirely missed my derpi account with the same name as this moniker with hundreds of foalcon images, lol. And lots of users are just ‘was in a server I don’t like :(‘.
It’s really weird but not something to worry about I think. Just some anti larping about ‘saving the fandom’ when all he’s done is harness weaponized obsession to make a list of people who do stuff he hates. Creepy and arong, sure. Dangerous, probably not.
Though I guess this does validate my initial conspiracy angle! Lol.
5774566
he also doxxed a bunch of people too in the same list
heh, looks like the EQD mods finally banned me over that list
5775439
Yeah, this is why I haven't revealed my 'normie' alias to almost anyone, even in this circle. People willing to block a list of names to be copy-pasted between servers aren't generally forgiving. Or usually worth hanging out with, but, well...they're the majority, so what can ya do, lol.
I'd advise it, but masking as a different person gets tiring. Just take care of yourself in the end, honestly.
5775442
i get your point, but its frustrating that i would have even use a different alias
