The Voice in the Water

Listen to the crashing of the waves, the flow of a stream, the roar of a waterfall, or the patter of the rain.

    I should have known better

New indie animated series by GLITCH. Trailer here:

Considering that it's GLITCH, I'm surprised that I'm surprised by what was in that, but here we are. Hopefully its as good as Muder Drones and Digital Circus (which, while not the greatest things ever, are still solid compared to the stuff coming out of Hollywierd).

First Natuili spotted by EV Nautilus

Watch as deep sea researchers nerd out over externally shelled cephalopods! (I get that excited when I run into rare or cool plants, so I can pretty reasonably say that kind of reaction isn't scripted).

    Just some random gamer ramblings

So, I was beating my head against a wall in Lies of P, and got to thinking: what would I want if I made Splintered Sky into a game. Obviously, there's a lot of different routes it could go, but something that really stuck with me was "wouldn't it be interesting to try to make an EVE style game out of the setting." So, I got to thinking "how could I make something like that and make it

    Monster Hunter Wilds

Sooooo, the MH Wilds beta is going on. And I've been playing it. And I'm afraid that if I buy the game, its going to be the only thing I play for a long time. Just like what happened when I picked up MH World. Yes, it's that good.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to make myself do something else besides pummel balahara.

    Versus (by One)

So, something that I have generally come to loath in contemporary storytelling is the very obnoxious trope of "sUbvOOrtinG tHi Aubiense exPertaCHuns dur hur hur I aRe seww cLEBbER" ["clever author" takes another drink of lead paint]. There's a single author that I've read that actually makes it work, and that's One, the creator of One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100.

Working on the next chapter, and realizing something I wish I could do. · 10:47pm Jan 12th, 2024

So, as I've written more of Rising, I've come to realize that there's something I wish I could do with the formatting. Namely, I wish I could have two columns of text, one that would represent the main narrative from Sunset's external perspective, and one that could be used for when Sunset and Philomena are sending, or when Philomena is sharing her perspective. I don't know how easy something like that would be to read, but I think it would give a better representation of the way the bond works.

Nothing wrong with experimenting. If it doesn't work just go back to a normal format.

Unfortunately, the website UI doesn't allow for it.

I think you can jimmy something but it might be extremely difficult and kill phone users. Like this...

Edit: No. Yeah. You're right. I can only get it to look correct when I'm typing it. Unfortunate.

Changing the font color perhaps?

Yeah this is the best for this kind of thing. Works well for internal and external dialogue as well.

Yeah, I've been there before. Parallel concurrent columns just aren't available. Even the footnote tools like [right_insert] get real messy with multiple paragraphs (and they don't work on mobile.)

I was trying things like this earlier, but the only way I could make anything look halfway decent was to make an image of the chapter text, and use this instead. downside is that this kills all site features. Wordcount, font, lite and dark themes, etc.
