The Craziest Thing Happened to Me... · 7:18am Dec 2nd, 2023
A short while ago, a user reached out to me on FimFiction to tell me they were making a video adaptation (in Spanish) of my story 'I Have No Wings and I must Fly' for their grimdark fanfic channel. (That was my first MLP fanfic. I wrote it when I was only 1.5 seasons into the show. In fact, I started watching the show in order to do research for the story.) Anyway, I told them that that sounded really cool. I followed their channel, planning to check out their content at some point. I forgot about it for a little bit but last night I happened to get on YouTube, (which I don't do very regularly,) and right there at the top of my feed was the YouTube premier of 'I Have No Wings and I Must Fly' just a few minutes in.
I tapped on it and entered a live stream of 300+ people that had gathered to watch this video of my story translated into Spanish. There was music and sound effects. There were different voices for the characters and narrator. There were on model, show quality illustrations of scenes that I'd written, like it was some kind of macabre Little Golden Book spotlight on Reading Rainbow. I was watching, in real time, a chat of viewers expressing fear and anxiety as the story developed. It was the most surreal thing that's happened to me since having my first kid. My Mind was absolutely blown. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone.
In short: Someone just randomly picked up a horror story I wrote about a children's cartoon about horses that's been over for years, lovingly translated the entire thing into Spanish and made a high quality video. Then hundreds of people tuned in to watch it upon release which I just stumbled into serendipitously as it all seemingly manifested out of thin air like a flash mob. Everything about this is so weird and amazing.
I remember that story! It was a great grim dark well deserving of the audio adaptation. I'm happy for your success! Congratulations!
It's a good feeling, isn't it?
Congrats!
