Happy Halloween/Nightmare Night!

Hard to believe it’s been a year since my last entry in the Car Wash series. However, Costume Contest isn’t the previous entry in the series, now that this is a shared universe with Admiral Biscuit. Periwinkle’s New Car is 100% canon to the Car Wash ‘verse.

We have plans for more stories. Periwinkle and G3 Meadowbrook are new additions to the series, Admiral Biscuit’s picks. There was a lot of back and forth on the character that ultimately became G3 Meadowbrook, as we tried to find an existing character who fit the mental image Admiral Biscuit had in mind. In the end, I think it was The New Gray Mare who made the suggestion and we both liked it.

As you can see above, she looks nothing at all like G4 Mage Meadowbrook. She’s way cuter!

Swinger (above) & Morning Monarch (below) are also new additions to the series as well, but they’re my picks. Swinger’s from G1 and Morning Monarch is from G3. Both of whom have been added since their names happen to overlap with automobile names. Morning Monarch is also a pony I have in my herd, and expect G3s to start appearing in series as I acquire them.

Frisco & Denim Blue are new additions to this series as well, and that means that We Built This City is also canon with this ‘verse, even if that story’s not officially part of the series.

Shenanigans (below) is a used car dealer in this series. She’ll probably be getting a story of her own in the future. Ford’s Edsel remains one of the textbook examples of a product flop. The car was unconventionally styled, and advertising overhyped the car’s modern features in such a way that it had no hope of meeting those newfound expectations. The Edsel was its own separate marque (like Lincoln or Mercury), and not the ‘Ford Edsel’. As such, there were multiple Edsel models, including the Edsel Citation, Edsel Ranger, Edsel Bermuda, Edsel Corsair, and Edsel Pacer.

The Pacer is thought to have been named after a horse. Also, almost all of the Edsel’s model names have been reused and two (Chevrolet Citation & AMC Pacer) were also disasters, with the AMC likewise having unconventional styling.

Hmn, a used car dealer that drives an Edsel. Where have I heard that before?

The 1980 movie Used Cars

If Meadowbrook can drive an homage to Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds, Shenanigans can pay homage to Used Cars. Shenanigans is another pony that’s joined my herd (I picked her up from The New Gray Mare at SeaquestriaFest).

Mustangs have developed a reputation for being driven rather poorly. Mustangs crashing into pedestrians at Cars & Coffee events has become a meme (this isn’t limited to Mustangs, as everything from Corvettes to Cobras have done this – the only one I’ve personally witnessed was a Dodge Challenger). What usually happens is someone leaves a car show (often a Cars & Coffee) and a crowd of people urges the driver to do a burnout. Because intelligence, maturity, and driving skill aren’t prerequisites to performance car ownership… well, let’s just say the crowd often runs right into a disaster, embracing it with open arms.

It’s so much of a meme that at Mustang Week back in 2016 there was a bootleg event sticker that showed a Mustang chasing a crowd.

I really like the cover art for this story. I was hoping that having the lights on would result in some sort of spooky lighting effect, and I wasn’t disappointed. There’s a green reflection that looks like a spooky mist (this has been enhanced a bit with saturation) and a pair of red spots that look like evil eyes (these haven’t been enhanced with saturation, because it just looked fake every time I tried).

Mimic is another G1 pony, and is the focus of the episode The Golden Horseshoes. Though she actually doesn’t play a large part in this episode, the entire plot revolves around her.

As a reminder, this is the 40th anniversary of MLP and I’ve never shied away from adding previous generation ponies to my stories. G1, G3, and G4 are all represented in this story.

Also, if anyone out there reading this ever stumbles across Mimic at a toy show, flea market, or thrift store cheap, buy her. She’s a valuable G1 pony.

Not this time. I'm not sure when he'll show up, possibly the next time the Wild Ponies Club goes on a cruise. Not that I'm hinting about any future installments in the series or anything. :scootangel:
