State of the Writer: May 2024!

    Didn't write nothing! clapping emoji!

My surgery was on the 22nd, and it went well, I'm still in recovery for technically the next week and a half or so, but as of this week I'm already feeling back to normal. Which I have to keep reminding myself I am not, lest I overdo something and hurt myself. <_< I am at least following the discharge instructions, so no worries about that.

    PP vs. What I've Become

Knight Breeze's What I've Become might not be a name you've heard before, but given its stats, especially the over 60,000 views, I feel safe calling it a fandom classic. :) Major spoilers ahead for a ten-year-old story!

Fic recs, May 20th: Project Get! #17!

Hey! :D Welcome back to Project Get!, where I sort my RIL by views and grab the last 10 on the list that aren't sequels, unfinished, or by the same author twice! I've been trying to do this a lot more frequently, but 'frequent' has not exactly described these blogs out of me, has it? D: I dunno if that could change in the near future. I've got outpatient surgery on Wednesday this week, so I'm

PP v FoE 2 · 11:49pm Dec 19th, 2012

Well, since the first one seems to have gone over well and people wanted more silly chapter titles, I thought I'd start a running commentary and post every few chapters or so. Expect snark and, yes, things I actually enjoyed. So here goes!

Chapter 2: "Welcome to EquestriSHITSHITFUCKSHITFUCKSHITSHIT"

So tell me again why the slavers didn't remove her pipbuck? That seems like the stupidest plot contrivance ever. I mean, they even noticed it, because she says they had trouble manacling that leg. These guys just were not bright, I guess.

God, I laughed at the targeting spell, even more in chapter 3 when it's 'recharging' and she says she may as well be aiming at nothing. It's like when you hit the wrong button and are suddenly aiming at the ceiling. Oh god, what if she's crabspying? Hold on, I have to laugh for a while...

So one thing I appreciate about the way this is being told is that she makes it clear at the start that she's telling how things happened from a point further on down the way, so she has concepts of things like "shotgun" and doesn't have to explain them or dance around them. Even the scene with the mine wasn't too bad (though when it's explained to her and then there's a joke, I was like ughhhh).

And I have to admit, though I feel like I'm being pandered to, I really like anything that suggests links to the characters we know, considering...

Current enjoy level: Watching a Michael Bay film.

(For reference, the enjoy level after chapter 1 was "Laughing at you, not with you.")

Chapter 3: "DO YOU EVEN WATCH THE SHOW?"

Fuck me sideways, this is the grimmest dark that ever grimmed. There is a definite gore fetish here, not to mention a juvenile obsession with swear words. I mean, seriously, the inside of the library? That's the kind of shit I write when I'm being childish and laughing over toilet humor.

"On the wall had been drawn a picture of horse sex, alongside which were words like 'dildo', lovingly rendered in what I believe was actual, for-real excrement. My god, somepony smeared poop on the walls. I said 'poop'. Teehee."

The cats, I should mention, are the first thing that really got a reaction out of me so far.

The idea of not everyone in this place being a severe cockhole is nice, but I'll believe it when I see this Watcher, which I anticipate will not be for at least eight chapters. Also, I think this chapter dashed my hopes that somehow Pinkie or someone had survived everything and was running around as an immortal. Abandon all hope, etc. At least Littlepip isn't a total cockhole, saving them ponies and whatnot. When she saw all the captives, I was expecting a moment's hesitation of "Well, they could just as easily kill me if I let them go" but it didn't happen, which was nice.

ZOMBIE.

DERPY.

Okay, that's two things that have gotten a reaction out of me. I was beginning to doubt that the apocalypse had taken place more than, like, a few decades ago, but at least that was cleared up. I like the line "For a moment, I just hated at him." But I swear to god, if she keeps finding med kits in Fluttershy boxes, I am going to laugh forever.

Current enjoy level: Zombie Derpy, wtf?

I wonder if my desire to not read this fic will escalate into a desire to not read these blogs...

"Current enjoy level: Watching a Michael Bay film."

Is that good or bad? I'd like to think 'assertively meh' at best, but I guess there has to be some reason he keeps being allowed near films...

>Derpy Ghoul
I literally didn't care about the story until that part. It was hard to read (prose/narrative), and hard to care about (crossover/genre/cynical-protagonist), and then Kkat dropped a ton of timebombs and suddenly, everything is interesting and at times provocative.
Again, though, it really doesn't pick up till 17/18.

nooo what will I do :(

629319
It means I'm looking at lots of explosions and not thinking very much.

629367
I wouldn't say it has made me care about the story, per se...

629391
...but this is definitely a memorable fic if nothing else. Then again, so was Love.Sick.

The slavers didn't remove her PipBuck because it's established at some point that those things are nearly impossible to get off without taking the rest of the leg with it. A slave with a missing leg is a very inefficient slave. Barely a spoiler: In about a thousand pages, you'll see that, had the slavers captured Littlepip, there's a doctor they would have brought her to to remove the PipBuck.

Luckily, the fic never gets more gory than Chapter 3/4. From here on out, the fic simply assumes you know how bad the Wasteland can get and doesn't bother to go into the grisly details again, for the most part.

Enjoying these blogs. Can't decide yet whether I want you to like or hate the fic. If the former, you're much more likely to see this through to the end. If the latter, these posts will probably end up being a lot funnier. :rainbowwild:

Love.Sick was really good until the end.

How do you do the spoiler thingy?

629575
Text
Heh, I can't wait to read your reaction when you start seeing how Kkat is putting the pieces together.

Haha. Yes. The beginning is perhaps not the strongest point. honestly, with the pipbuck, I didn't see any reason for them to really care. The real reason is shown later on, but at the time I figured that just like in FO3 and elsewhere, the Raiders/Slavers are stupid.

Her swearing becomes almost an inside joke about halfway through. The running gags of her swearing and... well you'll get there, but they wore on me. The former a LOOOT less than the latter.

Luna **** me with the moon is absolutely the best one. I just stopped, looked down, and just lost it. It was hilarious.

So far, there aren't any pieces. It's pretty straightforward and Pip has already forgotten about her whole reason for being out there. I mean, understandably so, but still.

A story like this does not need running gags. :/
