I just saw that my latest story has been spammed with downvotes faster than any other story I've ever uploaded. 
On a website dedicated to a cartoon about treating others with equal respect despite individual differences, the LGBT phobia adds quite a bit of irony to the equation.
If you haven't read my latest work, "Confessions," go and read it! Please. If you've read it and you like it, go upvote it and share it with your friends who haven't read it yet. As for the haters who are only hating on it because it's about Pride, get out of here. Go get yourselves zapped with a good old-fashioned rainbow friendship laser. 🌈

Sadly, that was a bit predictable. Many Pride stories start this way here, and the reason is simple: while most tolerant people have to read the story before voting on it, the bigots will downvote just because they see the word "Pride" in the description. Thus, the dislikes accumulate faster than the likes, at least at first.
Don't be discouraged by it though, Angel. You almost certainly know this already, but the vote ratio here doesn't reflect your writing ability in any way. And to be honest, posting this story anyway is quite a commendable thing to do, you know?
If there are genuine haters in your comments... you are probably being trolled.
If not, well, then you can stop reading this here and disregard me.

Personally I found the story rather boring and seemingly needless... but I agree I didn't see anything that would be cause for SEVERE downvoting... but there is the possibility of another reason regardless...
But hey, what the hell do I know...

Except this has been debated multiple times.
We have plenty of LGBTQ fics on here that get great ratings. I'm sorry, but I have seen this debate too many times to automatically call it "phobia"
People disliking "pride month?"...
Sure... but there are a slew of reasons why someone would to that.
I know a black man at work that HATES black history month... just sayin'...
I have discussed this myself in one of MLPHero's blogs. People here tend to care way more about how you present those characters than if a character is gay or not.
Many of the popular ships here and on derpy are same-sex, or even gender-swap or transgender.
Hell, here is a Rarity x Twilight fic out there with more than a few thousand likes.
Many crackfics get downvoted regardless... but it all depends.
I could be wrong, and if I am, oh well...
but I'm calling B.S.
And FYI, calling a general people "bigots" or "[insert] phobic" is only going to piss people off and they will downvote you because they feel you are being ignorant yourself.

I'll reply more once I have time, but just to comment on one thing.
That's true and I apologise for that. Nevertheless, I mostly meant only people who downvote stories only because said stories are pride-related. Even then though, I failed to communicate that adequately and even if I did, it'd still be somewhat derogatory. I apologise for that.
I will reply more about the rest later if you allow me, since I'm quite busy at the moment.

Okay, now the time has come for a more full reply.
I do think this is generally a matter of perspective and, even moreso, personal experience. Luck or lack thereof, if I do say so myself.
Most of the pride related fics I've seen here have had a severely worse vote ratio than your average MLP fanfic, especialy early on in their lifespan, which would suggest brigading of sorts (naturally, I mean fanfics which in themselves were decent and definitely not deserving of a downvote flood at the very least). Maybe these were the result of trolls, I have no way of knowing, but there must be some reason for them to target precisely these stories.
Maybe your experience is different. Maybe it's more accurate; it might be. But I'm simply speaking based on my own observations, maybe preemptively, I don't know.
Ultimately though, there are several reasons why fics tend to be downvoted early on in their lifespan. That includes it seeming like the story is political, it being added to too many groups at once and thus flooding people's feeds, and, well, what 22 KM To Nerdiness mentioned here:

The story didn't really seem like one tbh...

Again, I know I could be mistaken.
I would like to see a few of these ratio'd pride fics. Because when I look, I find far more that were average and or above aside from MLPHero's fic which was discussed in the comments why it was downvoted.
And that incredibly weird spike story I just looked at... that however doesn't really have anything to do with "Pride" per-se...

Pride and LGBTQ are both a touchy subject when put into a certain context, for sure.
But perhaps it is often not because of "bigotry?"...
Maybe it's polotics... plain and (not-so-)simple.
Everything is overly political (these days?).
Pride is just one of those things that got caught up extra hard in the "narrative" that is designed to wage the "war"
As a side note, Ship-fics in general in my experience often are hit-or-severely-miss.

Just want to say thank you to all of you who offered emotional support, as well as those of you who gave constructive criticism. Believe me, that one is difficult to find sometimes so I appreciate it. I'll take note of what all of you have said, and if I get an opportunity to I'll respond to each of you individually, but I thought I should at least try to say something before the silence stretches on for too long and gets awkward lol.
