Nostalgia’s bit me hard, and I’m missing Spyro.
Okay, people. Let’s start from the beginning.
In this alternate universe crossover fantic, Spyro and Spike are brothers. They’re both important purple dragons of a prophecy. But Spike doesn’t know that yet.
Spyro was a purple dragon-in-training, when Spike was still just an egg, the same time Gaul attacked the Dragon Temple to destroy the dragon eggs — which according to some old notes I’ve recently dug up, they take about a decade or so to hatch, unless they meet the right conditions.
In a nutshell, Spyro fought Gaul to protect the temple and the eggs, but ended up losing his temper, his firepower, had one of his wings broken, and only Spike’s egg survived the battle.
Orphaned, with nowhere to go, Spyro carried Spike’s eggs, all the way into Equestria, where Spike hatches, imprints Twilight Sparkle, meets the Mane Six and Sparx.
Years later, Spyro, Sparx, and Spike grew together with Twilight Sparkle. Unfortunately, Equestria was under attack by the Dark Army, lead by Tempest Shadow, the Storm King, an evil dragon named Red, and “evilized” Cynder.
And despite their efforts to defend Ponyville, and the ponies, Princess Celestial was killed, Princess Luna was taken prisoner, and Spyro was framed for the crime.
Now, our heroes are on the run, with only 3 Days counting, until the Storm King’s arrival and the final battle of the story.
The Good
- Intends to combine every incarnations of Spyro (Classic, Legends, and Skylanders) into one crossover with MLP.
- Another fanfic of giving Spike a major role to play as a fellow hero, alongside the Mane Six and Spyro.
- Plans to revive some of the scrapped concepts that didn’t make it into the final Spyro games.
The Bad
- The author (admittedly) hadn’t exactly thought the process through. Having preferred to “wing it” and make it up as he goes (playing the Spyro games, and such), but was too invested.
The Ugly
- The process of tackling some plot holes from the MLP: FiM canon, was confusing. Like how come the Storm King, or Tempest Shadow not know if Flurry Heart’s existence? When was the throne room redecorated? Where was Shining Armor in the entirety of the MLP 2017 movie? And if the whole IDW Comic was a lie, then does that mean the events of the MLP Movie prequels in the IDW Comic a big lie as well?
But as of late, now that I’ve started to feel that groove for the Spyro fandom again, I’m hoping I can have this all figured out soon.

MLP Ember appeared in Gauntlet of Fire which aired April 16, 2016, November 3, 2004 was when the other Ember appeared... So I have no cussing idea!
Actually, the movie was originally planned for the middle of Season Five (before Flurry Heart was born) rather than post-Season 7. It's just that the writers for the actual movie were probably feeling a bit too lazy to adjust for MOST of the things that got worked in between mid-Season 5 and post-Season 7. For the movie, well, perhaps they DID know about Flurry Heart, but focused on the ADULT Alicorns, since they might have known ABOUT Flurry Heart, but not how powerful she actually is (she WAS still a baby after all). As for Shining Armor, it seems like a pretty safe bet that he was back in the Crystal Empire protecting both Flurry Heart (who probably had a cold preventing her from attending the Friendship Festival and forcing Shining Armor to stay behind too) AND the Crystal Empire itself.
But, well, having the main story set early-Season 1 kind of solves the Flurry Heart problem (this being set well before she was even born), though the only two reasons for Shining's absence here would be 1. He was already captured or 2. Cadance is in hiding and Shining, as her main bodyguard, technically is in hiding too (since he's protecting her).

To be fair, it is not THAT unusual to have two characters of the same species and of the same name, but having starkly different personalities. For example, the G3 Rainbow Dash has more in common with G4 Rarity than the G4 Pegasus who has her name.
As for the Ember deal, well, Ember I (the Spyro version) could be an ex-wife of Lord Torch with Ember II (the MLP version) being her same-named daughter.
And classic Hunter had a pretty stark personality difference from Legends Hunter, but that could be resolved by one of two ways 1. Legends Hunter was actually the son of Classic Hunter (as well as Bianca, because, well, you know) or 2. Classic Hunter and Legends Hunter are actually the same cat, but just with the former growing MUCH more of a backbone. Though, in that context, it would be very easy to see the group encountering Hunter in Klugetown (as the only cop in that town who is both competent AND honest) and envision Bentley being a Yeti from one of the very first areas the Storm King actually conquered (which was a neighboring town from where the future Storm King was born and raised) and leading a rebellion in that mountain town.
Of course, this IS just brainstorming and is more likely to be wrong than right.
