Winter Wishday (spoiler-free but possible spoilers in the comments) · 2:04pm Nov 21st, 2022
Still composing my thoughts. Probably not worth a blog post later, so. Nutshell. I love G5's set pieces and character designs (possibly with the notable exception of Sparky), the music is pleasant but workmarelike, and the writing could still use some retooling. We should have gone to Bridlewood first, for spoiler-related reasons, for instance.
I make this blog post to say that (a) Zephyr Heights in winter is the closest canon approximation yet to the appearance of Cloudsdale in my primary headcanon universe, (b) Pipp and Zipp were my least favorite parts of the original movie and my most favorite parts of everything since, and, most importantly, (c) I saw Jazz in the opening montage and I got that old little G4 thrill when a minor character would appear without lines or story content and you would latch on and say "HEY HEY that's that minor character that I like!"
It's great to feel that energy again.
Also called the "Rarity Effect".

This is startlingly correct.
That is how it's been going, hasn't it? Pipp was a storyboard lodestone in the movie, but the play of her and Zipp's sisterhood has been a treat ever since.
Same, but Queen Haven for me. Her getting a song was like seeing Harshwhinny come back for the Equestria Games.

Now I want Harshwhinny to show up in G5, no explanation or lore provided.

And just so we're clear it's Harshwhinny in G4 style Roger Rabbit-esque, who walks frowning onto the screen, checks her clipboard, and walks off.

HW has traveled a thousand years into the future to find a host city for the Equestria Games because all her current prospects suck. One look at Maretime Bay convinces her she oughtn't have bothered.
