The pirate Salted Yard washes up upon the shores of Veliwir, a continent filled with large forests and dangerous creatures. He stumbles upon Blood Quill, a stoic member of the Banaur race. Together, they search for a dragon who has stolen a prized possession of Yard's: a magical astrolabe. Can the swashbuckler stay sober enough to avoid death at the dragon's claws?

Copper Head and Spot are two such ponies, taken from their homes by monstrous wolves, but do they have what it takes to survive the king's tests? Alongside the cloudwalkers Shadowstorm and Grand Prix as well as the mysterious alicorn Kindle, Copper Head and Spot might stand a chance, and be able to save the two kingdoms from all out war.
