Chess is Hard. Everypony can agree on that.

Some are better than others. Some exceptionally so. And some, not so much.

Twilight Sparkle is good at planning. This does not correlate to her being good at chess.

A Human by the name of Aaron has lived in Equestria for a good 2 years or so. He's enjoyed the Company of the Mane 6 in Ponyville, and even befriended all of them. The other Ponies/Creatures treat him either just as amicably or neutral.

Today, he was tasked by Twilight to do a little shopping run across Ponyville for a special surprise for Rarity.

This was a perfect day. Absolutely nothing could ruin this.

This fic is for the "Equestria At War" Universe, complete with its very own lore and history of Equestria's world.

This fic features a wide variety of characters as well, so I made a Character Sheet on my Profile Page to help you shed some light on the names you will read. I recommend checking it out at least once if you are still interested in the story.

Second-hand knowledge of the universe is not required to enjoy this Fic, though it is still highly recommended. Check out the world of "Equestria at War" if you wish to truly appreciate what is being told.

Millennia.

Equestria had known peace for a Millennia. Since the beginning of time immemorable, from when The Alicorn Sisters took the throne in the Cradle of Ponykind, they vowed this to be their goal: A Millenial Peace. Ponies have been taught to practice Harmony and to respect the land and the creatures they coexist with. This tradition gives birth to the Tree of Harmony, and their respective Elements. And thus Equestria was truly born as a nation, the haven of Ponykind.

As time passes, Princess Twilight and her companions embody their respective Elements. The Element Bearers have maintained Peace across Equestria through the tenets of Harmonious Friendship. Their ideas shaped Equestria to be a modern utopia in the future. For the longest anypony could remember, life was good.

Despite this—or perhaps, because of this—dark clouds billow over the horizon.

In the Summer of 1011—nearly a decade after Chrysalis failed in Canterlot—the Changeling Hegemony announced that a state of war would exist between them and Equestria from here on out.

For the first time in a millennia, Equestria was at war.

From that moment forward, innocence would forever be lost as a casualty of a grand conflict of attrition and devastation. One that shaped the nation, and indeed the world, into the callous reality it became today. For centuries to come.

Yet this is not the tale of Equestria's war, nor is this the tale of the heroes and monsters within the conflict.

This is the story of two Pegasi and their journey through madness—of unexpected friendships and fierce rivalries, of overwhelming setbacks and hollow victories. All in a quest to thwart a malevolent scheme that has been brewing for years, lurking in the shadows and threatening to obliterate the fragile peace they have fought to achieve.

This is the tale of Two Pegasi challenging fate—to change the world as they know it.
