There is always room for a new story in any genre, as long as it has a strong narrative, a well-developed plot, strong characterization, and good grammar. Don't let public perception of a genre keep you from writing the story that you feel in you.

Thank you very much, The Descendant. I have a story I've progressed quite far with but I'm unsure whether it will flourish or not. It's basically a war epic; based in the future (10 thousand years or so) and involves the much overused trope of King Sombra and his evilness. I quite enjoy reading it myself but that's probably a biased perspective due to it being my brainchild. I was just wondering, is the war theme overused, perhaps grown a little prosaic and even, dare I say it, lazy?
