Speculation and Worldbuilding: Immortality and Emotion · 3:41pm Apr 28th, 2015

Immortality—or a functional equivalent—is one of those situations that presents an interesting challenge to writers. It has no real life equivalent, so writers have nothing to reference to give it verisimilitude. Like all unorthodox situations, the freedom available to writers is offset by the need to ground it in reality and consistency. How would one react to situations, how would they act, if they had lived for centuries or millenia? How would it affect their outlook? Or their emotions?

If You Came to Conquer Sequel/Continuation: Inexcusable · 12:01am Apr 23rd, 2015

Back when I first posted If You Came to Conquer, one of the main complaints was the vagueness of the ending. I said that if I ever did write more to the story, I would make it a sequel instead of extra chapters. That way, anyone who did not want more could choose to ignore it more easily.

Speculation and Worldbuilding; Unicorn Combat and Weapons · 4:55am Apr 9th, 2015

Unicorns present an interesting combat scenario. Not only do they lack traditional human biometrics, they have telekinesis. This means that traditional single combat applies even less to them than it does to the other ponies, because their options are much greater and varied.

This blog post is a meandering mental exercise about one possible form unicorn combat may take.

State of the Plot/Progress Updates · 2:32pm Apr 5th, 2015

Normally I try not to spend blog posts on WIP projects or unfinished things. My writing style necessitates a lot of changes and adjustments. I learned a while ago that promoting my ideas before they are ready tends to be a bad idea. It has been a while since I posted anything substantial here, however, so I figured showing I'm not dead/lazy couldn't hurt.

Worldbuilding/Silly Speculation: What Do the Main Six Read? · 11:45pm Feb 17th, 2015

What your characters read says a lot about them. Like taste in drinks or music, showing a character’s taste can help characterize them quickly and efficiently, with less time and effort from the author.

Three Year Anniversary Special: Writing Retrospective + AMA · 10:32am Feb 4th, 2015

As of today, I have been a member of this site for three years. Three years! That’s older than some of my relatives. My use of this site has outlasted my enjoyment of the show. To celebrate this “milestone”, I thought I would look back on some of the things I published on this account. Examine what they taught me and how they have held up to time. Further, I thought I would analyze some of the themes and concepts that repeat across multiple stories. I always enjoy such analyses of other

Speculation and Worldbuilding: Magical Pony Sports · 6:49pm Nov 26th, 2014

A major part of worldbuilding is sports and games. Taking something familiar and changing it slightly has multiple uses. It creates verisimilitude by showing that your fictional world still has and plays games. It creates a slight disconnect from the audience, because they can recognize that the mechanics are similar, yet not identical (a smaller version of the Uncanny Valley, if you will). It also gives you a chance to showcase the fantastical elements of your setting and tie them into

Elements of Excess Canceled · 4:25pm Nov 23rd, 2014

I debated it for a long time, but I think it is finally time to admit that I am never going to finish this story. I could give you some fancy excuse or meandering reason, but I'll spare you that. The simple fact is that when I sat down to write the next chapter, despite having the plotline in my head, nothing happened. I tried to write and nothing came out. I like to think of myself as a professional with standards, which is why I was so afraid to cancel it for so long.
