Start of a Vacation · 10:18pm Apr 30th, 2015

Or so I prefer to think. As of right now I am officially unemployed. Turns out the big wigs where I work have concluded that proper documentation isn't worth the money invested, so they've kicked me to the curb to save the office funding in the short term. Oh well, I've got money saved up, I can last a little while whilst I look for new work. In the meantime, more horse words!

A call for pre-readers, artists and a The Gentle Nights announcement after the jump.

Paul's Monday Reviews X · 9:40pm Apr 27th, 2015

Ten weeks of reviews have now come and gone, which leads me to wonder: what do people think of my reviews? I tend not to get much feedback, so I want to know if people are even paying attention. I won't stop even if you all say no, though; I'm writing these as much for my benefit as anyone else's. I'd just like to know if there's anything I can do to improve this little section of my miniscule domain.

Onward! Good stuff coming this week.

What Makes a Good Crossover? · 9:37pm Apr 23rd, 2015

Just today I finished reading a crossover story (which, curiously, has not been tagged as such). After finishing it, I came away with mixed feelings about the story. I didn't know the source material at all, but after finishing the story I decided to study said source material. I discovered, to my chagrin, that the author had ripped 80% of his plot directly from the source material, changing things up only by making the Mane 6 the central characters. Two problems here:

I dunno about you guys, but I rather liked Bloom and Gloom. Way better than Sweetie's dream episode, although it still doesn't quite match Sleepless in Ponyville for me.

Have some reviews while I struggle to finish some of my projects while looking for a new job. This stuff is getting tricky.

Another Day, Another Story · 9:40pm Apr 9th, 2015

After eight months of work, Reddux the Tyrant is finally coming to an end this weekend. I'll be releasing Chapter 19 this Saturday and the final chapter on Sunday. It's been a long and fun road. In the end, the story received almost no attention, but I don't mind at all. From the very beginning, I wrote Reddux specifically because I wanted to see the story made, not because I expected any attention from it. In

Da-yum, that Season 5 premier, yeah? I'm still sick to my stomach from it. Not that it was bad – I really liked it – but just the concept of what Starlight Glimmer was trying to do. I haven't had a villain terrify me with 'what if scenarios' like this since the Changelings. And now I am looking forward to this season. Before I was sort of 'meh,' largely because Twilight's Kingdom was such a horrible, horrible disappointment and my faith in the writers had been shaken. With

Dreams, Because Why Not? · 9:30pm Apr 2nd, 2015

My original plan for today's blog was to write a little something about my current opinion of Show vs. Tell. Two problems with that plan:

1) My opinions regarding the subject are likely to have people unfollow me in outrage.

2) The very thing that gave me the idea won't be a subject of discussion for a little while yet, so the context can't be properly explained.

Paul's Monday Reviews VI · 9:27pm Mar 30th, 2015

After a delightfully productive weekend accompanied by the awesome news of Of Angels being story #5 of mine to get into EqD, it's time to kick back and do some reviews. It's getting to the point where I'm really looking forward to these. Anyway, this time we've got a few thought-provokers, including two taking on the exact same topic. It's been a curious week, to say the least.

I find myself rather excited about some things that may just be coming around the turnpike. Lots of announcements coming in this one, folks. We've got prequels in the works!
