She appeared as if from nowhere, a dark shadowed figure full of dread magic. Shining Armor and Cadance scowled with apprehension, but her attention was on the _other_ shadowy overlord that stood before her. Only one could remain.

It was an Umbrum she saw, wasn't it? From the comic telling Sombra's origin, with Radiant Hope, Princess Amore, and all that?

Vex lol
I have a feeling that it's a certain changeling.
In the greatest of darkness does the light stand most resplendent. The brighter the light, the deeper the shadow it casts.
This? This may be a flashbang in a dark theater, at best.
... or it will leave a permanent shadow on the wall, at worst.

Oh, yes, at least in terms of what Umbra saw looking at Cadance with Shadow Vision flipped on. That wasn't what I was referring to, but entirely correct! Is Umbra the cast shadow?

Warning! Fimfic produces no alerts if you reply on a different chapter to a comment. So they won't be told you replied to them.
One side, Wayne. This is the real Dark Knight!
The "Darker Knight", if you will

Hmmmm... I believe that would be a typographical error, would it not? I wouldn't know, dear. I don't write the script, I just doodle in the margins.
If she is, then from whence does the light come?
11074084
Ah... I didn't know that... oops

It's caught me a few times. I just try to spread the warning around.
This is interesting now. And i do want your opinion on this.
In the comic Sombra got obliterated and reformed into a normal pony. Is there even a posibility of Umbra ever going full light and become a "pretty pony". I really want to see them all happy and for Umbras heart to finally fully heal so she can maybe even later ascend.
On the other hand almost dieing to be reborn as a pony of harmony would suck.
11074156
I would argue becoming a benevolent shadow princess is a better ending. Shadow doesn't have to be evil.
11074157
Agreed, but in most fictions darkness/shadow is something you practice and not embody to its fullest extent. The kingdom is full of light that could hurt her like the crystal heart. Maybe, just maybe reform her body so shes a pony practicing shadow and not shadow given form that could die if light so much shined in her way.
I just want Umbra to be fully happy and not consider herself a monster, which while ita nice that those close to her dont see her as one others might. And her exsistance going against light of harmony ect ect.
Dont take me wrong i love whatever you do I personally love this type of stories.

I was suggesting that the main character simply misunderstood what was being said, as an alternative explanation of the exchange.

But it was an Umbrum, why did it flee from her like that? I thought Umbrum was a source of Sombra's power or something like that.

The Umbrum are a race of malevolent creatures trapped beneath the Crystal Empire by the Crystal Heart. Their leader created Sombra to be more pony-like in appearance, and sent him to infiltrate the Crystal Empire without the knowledge of what he was so he could better fit in as a pony. The Umbrum leader knew the Crystal Heart would hurt Sombra, and that he would flee the Crystal Empire to escape the pain. Then, the leader could communicate with Sombra remotely, and would tell him of the source of his pain and that Amore was knew of his suffering and did nothing. From there, Sombra would likely be more susceptible to a spun sob story of false imprisonment, especially since the leader was falsely projecting their kind as more pony-like in appearance and personality than they actually were. I think the spun tale was that the Umbrum were the original inhabitants of the Crystal Empire, but were cast out and exiled by Amore and her people.
Anyway, I think the leader would have sensed Sombra's destruction but also that one like him remained, and would have sent a scout to investigate. I kinda get the feeling the scout was supposed to be invisible, and that Umbra finding it and calling it out in the open with that greeting spooked it and made it decide to flee rather than risk capture or destruction. On top of that, the Umbrum are the antithesis to the Crystal Heart, so it wouldn't surprise me if the scout might have sensed Umbra's connection to the artifact. That connection might even have caused the scout pain with how close she was to it.
Friendship is magic, shadows like hugs and cuddling to
Umbrum... Didn't they feed on hate like Wendigos?
David Silver, author of Ponyfinder, would this make a good campaign setting? I'm going to have to start rewatching your YouTube channel

A campaign of a bunch of people in this family? Sounds like fun to me.
They are so well fitting for one another ♡
