I didn't ask to wake up in a forest, and I sure didn't ask to be killed. But I was. And...then I wasn't. I don't know what happened to me, but I just want to go home, or, failing that, make a new life for myself.
I don't trust a single word that came out of Sombra's mouth. It's all far too convenient "I terrify my populace for the greater good! I'm just a misunderstood guy trying to do what's best, it's just a coincidence that everyone says i'm evil, you should totally trust my incredibly suspect tour and help me!" because we all know that the best way to protect someone is to scare the shit out of them and make them wear chains.
Also psychological torture is still torture and I'd be pretty hesitant to trust someone who upon meeting me decides that the best way to gain my trust is to show me how much they enjoy torturing their political prisoners.
Back to the subject of the tour of the "empire" all of the common folk cowered in fear at the sight of him, the very thought of his name invoked terror but those who lived and worked an easy life in the castle were happier. That sounds exactly like you'd expect a dictatorship to function, the unlucky ones (manual labourers, the homeless, the poor etc.) live in fear of something that their despot holds over them and the lucky ones (soldiers, nobles, the rich and famous) enjoy their comfortable lives either reasoning that "Hey at least it's not me" or otherwise keeping themselves distracted from the situation. And that's before we take into account that Sombra has shown that he isn't above altering minds and memories for his "greater good" making it possible that any interactions between Alex and the ponies could have been faked or manipulated.
Overall I'd say that Alex allowed his feelings about Celestia to cause him to be swayed far too easily and no matter what, the fact that Sombra's story was suss' as fck should have at least given him pause. "why can't I be nice? Well because the princesses would obviously overthrow me out of... I dunno' jealousy or something, it doesn't matter! I'm misunderstood luv me!"
I like where this is going.
Oh I do love a good story that deconstructs Sunbutt's love of chess mastering. It's much better than The Wanderings of A Non Brony
Sure as hell sounded like it though
orly? It's not a reference to anything?

I like the story more and more especially if Celeste gets her ass whooped
