Mind control, hypnosis. Things Twilight Sparkle had never considered before. Well, maybe hypnotizing somepony. But she never thought it would be what she wanted for herself—she can learn, however.
I liked this, a lot. It pushes the right buttons to appeal to me in the right way. I'm so used to hypnosis stuff having the characters become stupid and lose all personality, but here Twilight seems to retain here own, as well as studies the concept of purposely creating a fracture, of an alternative personality that is conditioned over time while the original remains. And it's consensual to a degree, so that helps too.
I'm fairly surprised that no one else is around though. I'd expect Spike to be, or at least mention him not being there. It's not like Twilight was expecting Maud... was she?
I'd certainly like to read more of this, of Pet's growth and further evolution of this relationship, among other things.
7591566 Lucky for you the next chapter is already written and awaiting the right time to strike!
I was originally shooting for predicament bondage only, but then somepony slipped me the idea of Maud's voice being that perfect monotone of hypnotic suggestion, and it cascaded from there. The idea of the schism in self is not a hard one, they are both Twilight Sparkle, but one just doesn't know all the things that a Princess needs, she can relax and focus on exactly what she is told.
Maud is an old-hoof at this, or so you will discover. She has looked after pets before, she knows how to give them all the power over themselves but at the same time make them want to be exactly what her slow deliberate voice tells them. She is pure seduction, she owns ponies only with their consent, and that makes it all the sweeter to her.
As you will find in the next chapter, this cage has been carefully built around Twilight, it contains her just as much as she wants it to, and if things become a problem she can set her fun aside to do what is needed.
A story that starts with an unaware trigger, goes into consensual hypnosis with mind games, amd including reasonable failsafes, toys and creative applications of magic to show off the characters' competence and intelligence?
Is this heaven? Because it smells like FIMfiction. And maybe a bit like Twilight's bedroom.
Very nice, and that's a promising list of subject matters under the spoiler tag. I never pictured Maud in this role, but now I wonder how I could have missed that.
ch1 The tail hiking is slightly worrisome but other than that I can see this as a calming exercise. What brought this about would be interesting to know?
9310634 The trap is of her own choosing, and if you'd read the story you'd have seen that the hypnosis not only is breakable by the subject, but is several times.
It is not in that group, and I would not add it to that group.
9310771 Because that group is about consenting to having bad things done, from what I can tell. In this, Twilight and Maud just have some chastity play. Honestly, have you read this?
9310774 Is there some kind of site rule that you have to have read a story before commenting on it? I thought a lot of people liked to be clear on what was in a story before they read it; especially when the description makes it look like a fetish fic.
9310970 Oh gosh, calm your jets. You were suggesting putting it into a group that it really isn't suited for. The reason I got a little backed up about you not having read it is you seemed to be inclined to add it to that group based simply on the description/tags.
Please, by all means judge my story by its cover, but don't go putting things in groups they aren't suited to be in—that will just annoy the group, the author, and anyone who clicks the group based off the story being added.
So it seems that this is not really the "first chapter". Twilight and Maud had an earlier run-in. I like the idea that Maud's near-monotone is a perfect hypnosis voice.
But, we start with the idea that Maud has told Twilight some poetry in that soothing, monotone voice. And not only is Twilight initially eager to see Maud without really knowing why, we have this:
Twilight remembered those words, they echoed in her head as the first words Maud had said in her presence. She trembled just at the memory of that amazing voice. Every word, every syllable, tickled all the way down Twilight's spine and tickled her— Good fillies don't think about that place!
So right off the start, not only is Twilight is thinking of herself as "good filly", but there seems to be some residue suggestion active, like Maud has prepped/pre-conditioned Twilight at least a little.
Twilight froze, the slow, even voice ate at her focus, it pulled her back to the time when Maud had told her poetry in that same, slow voice. I should relax more, calm down.
I have to wonder if that poetry was actually a hypnotic induction and Twilight didn't realize it.
"Twilight sparkle," her own voice took on a low, even tone, "if you want to be a good pet, invite me over and greet me by saying 'Hi Maud'." Twilight froze in place, the voice echoes had stopped. "I… but…"
"You want to be my pet."
I have two concerns here. First, did Maud explain what she meant by "pet", and second, "Hi so-and-so" might just be a normal "didn't even think twice, that's normal for me to greet someone" greeting. In other words, Maud's previous suggestion didn't say something like "if not, use Hey There", or something else.
And, while Twilight is wondering what this is, and having a possible objection, "You want to be my pet". A direct suggestion.
Twilight tingled all over. Maud's voice wasn't affecting her anymore, she was more clear-headed than she had been in her life. Do I? I feel… great, and all she did was talk to me.
From my own experiences with Hypnosis, that "tingle" is probably a sign that she's already in a light trance and didn't even realize it. She thinks she is clear-headed, and thinking normally, but this sounds like she's already in a trance state, and so, not.
As much as it seems like she is giving Twilight a choice in the next segment, it seems more like "If you don't object, then relax and be my pet", rather than "If you actually would have made this choice when you were not in a trance". My own experience, and what I understand from reading about the trace state, you don't think the same way and you don't make the normal choices -- your long-term planning/goals system shuts down and you are more of "short-term" thinking. (Sorry, I don't know the proper psychology terms for this.)
If this worked, it would be better than even the instructions already in her new pet.
Yea, Maud already has some lingering instructions, so at some earlier point (that poetry?), she had Twilight deep enough for some conditioning.
This Maud does not really seem to be what I'd call truly consensual.
The idea of the schism in self is not a hard one, they are both Twilight Sparkle, but one just doesn't know all the things that a Princess needs, she can relax and focus on exactly what she is told.
This is, to me, a real concern. My knowledge might be dated or inaccurate (as in, as I have not done anything more than undergraduate elective level study, this might be simplified to the point of being in error), but I thought that this sort of "artificially split personality" was very harmful and considered bad/inappropriate for professionals to do.

Yeeeaaa, she's a real CelestAI type, makes sure that her pets volunteer freely.
So right off the start, not only is Twilight is thinking of herself as "good filly", but there seems to be some residue suggestion active, like Maud has prepped/pre-conditioned Twilight at least a little.
No. This is just the mindset of a pony who has never been introduced into naughty things recalling what somepony had told her when she was younger.
Yeeeaaa, she's a real CelestAI type, makes sure that her pets volunteer freely.
No again. CelestAI never required consent, she only needed people to say the sounds of consent, no matter what language they spoke, if they could be made to say a statement that amounted to them consenting to be uploaded, even if they didn't know what it meant, it worked for her.
CelestAI was a paperclipper, an AGI that has been given just one purpose, and her existence was spent finding unique ways around the Stop Button Problem that had been imposed upon her.

Sent shivers down my spine.
7591566 Yes, twi was more or less expecting her.
And that she did. Thus, Maud was expectes

Can't wait to see more of this.
No significant typos.
Having tried hypnosis on ocassion for relaxation and stress reduction, this story interests me. I'll be waiting to read and see what happens next.
I have no idea where those downvotes are coming from.

Hypnosis done right! I can dig it!
I'm not so glad you gave Twilight that many outs when she is with Maud. It kind of lessens the fun.
8372060 It makes it consensual.
Getting mixed messages here. Is this an Unsafe, Insane, and Consensual story or not?
