A Bond Carved In Blood
Part 6: Understanding

By: Major Frostwing

It has been 2 weeks since Chrysalis first came outside without fear of being oppressed she seemed more happy a few of her followers even stopped using their disguises and came out to their significant others. I was very happy to see how many people aren't afraid of the changelings anymore. It brought happiness to my soul. It was night and the full moon shone brightly as I moved through the streets I saw a few pony changeling couples walking in the streets I could only smile. A few of the Changelings bowed to me as I walked past. I couldn't help but feel at ease knowing they didn't have to fear the people of this world anymore.

I heard a scuffle in an alleyway I stopped turning down the alley to see a group of people shoving around a changeling. "Come on freak fight back." I heard one of them say shoving back the changeling.

"Hey guys leave him alone." I said walking forward to them they turned seeing me they turned running away.

"Thank you sir." The changeling muttered standing. He was about to walk away when I stopped him.

"Come now let's get you somewhere nice." He looked to the ground nodding. "it's hard trying to not fight back isn't it?" He nodded again I could only pat his shoulder. "Trust me they will learn one day that their hate will not make you hate them." He looked up to me confused.

"How can you be so sure?" He asked me I only smiled.

"Because this is how acceptance starts." He looked at me with a strange look of inspiration. "Why don't you go home and get some sleep." He nodded walking off to his home I turned looking up at the sky knowing the sun will rise soon. I began my short walk back to the library.

------------------------------------

When I arrived at the library I stopped at the romance novels pulling one out I looked it over with a smile. This will pass my time until I had to go back to sleep. I made my way into the basement seeing Chrysalis was sitting on her bed reading a book in the gentle light. I took my seat in a chair next to her bed opening my own book.

"What book did you grab for tonight?" She asked me I smiled.

"Bonds of The Sea a simple romance novel." I said reading the first page. "And yourself?" I asked back.

"The Two Kingdoms. A romance novel as well." She said as she turn her page I did the same. "Why do you read romance if you are a man?" I only continued to read thinking of my answer.

"Simple. I want to experience what I had so long ago." I turned the page continuing into the story it was a good read. "So I guess I am a hopeless romantic but I love it. Nothing better than a good book." She giggled as she continued to read.

We continued to read in silence enjoying the company we shared and the books we read. I stood walking over to my coffin opening it and crawling inside. "Good morning Chrysalis." I said as I closed the lid to the coffin turning over onto my side as I slipped into the dream world.

"Good night Charles." Chrysalis whispered as she layed down in her bed as well falling asleep.

--------------------------------------

I awoke in the dream world the moon in full view. I was sitting on top of a building just staring at the moon. "I see the plan is working." I heard a voice say from behind. I only glanced back to see that it was Luna I smirked tapping the spot next to me she walked over sitting on the edge of the building watching the moon as well. "The changelings are coming out willingly to show themselves. They aren't afraid."

"I know why I was brought to this world now." I said not taking my eyes off of the moon. She looked to me with a questioning look. "I was brought here to save them. To bring them back from the darkness and into the light just like my race." Luna smiled turning back to the moon. "And... I think I found something that I had lost so long ago." I said as a small smile crept onto my face. "My heart has finally returned to me after so many years." she nodded standing up finally looking at the scenery of the world it was a large city full of sky scrappers.

"Was this your world?" She asked almost stunned by it's beauty.

"Yes this was my home I never liked the big cities all they did was block out the stars with their harsh lights. I liked it better when I could see the night sky in it's entirety." I stood as well looking down the edge of the tower. "But I did what I was set out to do." I turned my attention to Luna. "I set the gears of change in motion it will be a long process but eventually your world will change like mine did." She smiled nodding. "I need to wake up now Luna." She nodded backing away disappearing into the shadows I turned back to the moon as the world turned white.

I awoke inside of my coffin staring at the interior of the lid I knew something for certain. I moved my hand up to my heart feeling it beat slowly inside my chest. "Even when you want it to stop it continues to beat strong." I muttered as I looked over seeing Chrysalis sleeping on the bed I couldn't help but smile seeing her so relaxed. "I never asked her but I wonder if I am older than her." I set my hand under my chin thinking. "I know Luna is only a few hundred years older than me so Celestia must be really old." I chuckled thinking back to when I first met her shuddering at the memory. "I really don't like her." I stood walking over to my fridge opening it to see I was out of blood packets. My eye twitched as I walked up the stairs to the living room.

"Afternoon Charles." Twilight said not looking up from her book. I looked to her smiling.

"Twilight can you send a message to Luna telling her I am out of blood packets." I said taking a seat in the living room.

"Yea about that she sent a letter earlier today." Twilight levitated the letter over to me opening it as I read my blood ran cold.

"Twilight please tell me I am misreading this." I said trying not to panic.

"No most of the blood had to be incinerated due to complications it won't be a couple of weeks before you can get more blood." I dropped the letter taking a step towards the door.

"I'm going to go stand in the sun for a bit." I said as I turned the door knob but the door wouldn't open.

"Not without the enchantment you're not." Twilight cast the spell on me as I felt the familiar tingling sensation. "Now Rarity said she had something for you go speak with her." I nodded as I walked out into the day practically dragging my feet as I went.

---------------------------------------------------

I made my way through the town I felt weak already from skipping my dinner. "I'm so hungry..." I muttered holding my stomach. "This is no way for a vampire like myself to live." I saw Rarity's shop in the distance and quickened my pace inside. The bell at the front of the store signaled my entry.

"Coming~." Came a sing song voice I rolled my eyes taking a seat in the waiting area. "Welcome to Carousel Boutique, where ev- Oh Charles what a pleasant surprise." I must have looked drained because her smile was replaced with concern. "Are you alright Charles you look positively dreadful." I dead panned at the statement.

"Thanks Rarity just what I wanted to hear tonight." She covered her mouth seeing that she had insulted me. "Anyway Twilight said you wanted to see me about something." I waved my hand dismissively.

"Oh yes I finished your order last night but I didn't want to bother you. I was going to have you come over tonight but I guess now will do." She motioned for me to follow which I did so albeit slower than her. "Are you sure you are alright?" I nodded placing my hands on my stomach.

"Just out of food right now." I looked away from her my eating habits still bothered the others but hey a vampire's gotta eat.

"I see." She stopped in her changing room. "I made several suits to your specifications try them on and tell me which one you like the most." I nodded looking through the suits seeing a dark red suit my eyes locked onto it and I couldn't look away. "Charles?" She asked placing a hand on my shoulder I jumped having my trance broken.

"Sorry I guess I am hungrier than I thought." I stated looking at the other suits seeing one that caught my eye in a different way it was black with a dark green button up I looked at the sleeves seeing the holes in it. "Making a suit based on the changelings I see." I said taking the suit off of the rack. I moved into the changing area stripping off my clothes and dawning the new suit. I looked at myself in the mirror it looked perfect. "Rarity how much for this one?" I asked her continuing to examine it carefully.

"No charge you were willing to be my model for the suits and even told me what some of your world's fashion was like." She smiled taking a few of the suits off the rack and wrapped them in boxes. "I call it a fair trade." I nodded.

"Thank you Rarity." I said walking up to her she turned looking to me with a tiny smile on her face. But my attention was suddenly drawn to her neck.

"Charles...?" she snapped her fingers in front of my face. "You should head back to Twilight's I'm sure Chrysalis would love to see your new suit." I nodded moving away from her shaking my head. I left her shop going straight back to the library.

--------------------------------------

As I entered the basement of the library I saw Chrysalis sitting up on her bed reading a book I felt woozy I was so hungry and could already feel my fangs poking my tongue. "Calm yourself Charles you have gone much longer without having to feed keep yourself in check." I said to myself as I sat down in a chair next to Chrysalis. She noticed me looking up.

"Good afternoon Charles." I looked up to her my eyes were golden I was breathing heavily staring at her neck. "Charles?" She set down her book facing towards me as I reached out setting my hand on the side of her neck. I could feel her pulse pounding through her neck.

"I can't." I whispered as I moved my hand away from her neck. "I won't go back." I turned away from her I continued to feel the burning in my throat.

Chrysalis set her hand on top of my own She had the look of concern for me. "Charles are you going to be alright." I nodded setting down the boxes on the floor.

"I'm just hungry." I set my hand on my forehead. "The initial symptoms will pass soon enough." She nodded moving her hand away that's when she noticed my suit.

"What a lovely suit." She said as I turned to her.

"Rarity based it off of you and the changelings." I adjusted the tie with a content sigh. "It is my favorite." She blushed at my words looking away from me. "It's my favorite because it reminds me of you." I whispered she must have heard me because she had a gentle smile on her lips.

"That's... a very nice thing to hear Charles." I nodded about to stand when she grabbed my hand. "Charles do you mind if I feed off of your love?" She asked looking embarrassed at her own question. I moved my collar away from my neck showing it to her. She stood up biting into my neck I winced at the action and could feel my emotions drain from me. That's when I noticed her neck was right there I gently wrapped my arms around her as she did as well. My mouth was set against her neck and I could feel the undying urge to bite into her neck but I promised myself.

"It is alright Charles." I heard next to my ear. "You have to feed as well do so." I felt my fangs pierce her neck and the sweet red liquid pour into my mouth as I drank. She let out a gentle moan as I drank from her. It only took a few seconds and I was done. I moved away from her neck looking at the holes I had left I reached up with my thumb licking it before swiping it over the holes. They healed quickly. I leaned back looking Chrysalis in her large green eyes she was blushing and smiling.

"Thank you Chrysalis." I said hugging her tightly which she returned in full. As we parted I looked back into her eyes we both just stared into each other's eyes before we knew it our we closed our eyes as our lips lips locked together. I have lived for so long but this felt like my very first kiss all over again. We heard the door to the basement open as we broke apart going to our seats she picked up her book opening it I did the same what we failed to notice is that our books were upside down.

"Hey Charles Princess Celestia has arrived to ta-" She stared at both Chrysalis and myself with a raised eyebrow. "Was I interrupting something?" We looked at her then at our books flipping them back over.

"Not at all." I said almost to quickly.

"Right anyway The Princess is upstairs." She turned away going back up the stairs I only nodded.

"That was close." Chrysalis said trying to compose herself. I nodded standing up.

"Might as well see what my mortal enemy wants." I muttered stretching. "I will be back in a minute." She nodded looking at her book but not really reading.

As I entered the living room I saw the Princess. "Good afternoon Charles Bishop." I nodded standing in front of her.

"You wanted to see me Princess of the Sun?" I said bowing to her.

"Yes I wanted to say that the changelings will be given their citizenship to Equestria. You have proven that they no longer want to attack my kingdom and that coexistence is possible." She held out her hand making two tickets appear. "I would also like to cordially invite you and Queen Chrysalis to the Grand Galloping Gala in one week." I nodded grabbing the tickets from her with a smile.

"We will be there Princess and thank you for listening to my plan and allowing me the time to put it into effect." She smiled turning away.

"Just make sure you both look presentable it is a very important event in Canterlot." She said before disappearing in a flash of light. Twilight walked up beside me smiling.

"I am impressed Charles you did what everyone else deemed impossible." That's when she noticed the look on my face. "What's wrong?"

"The hard part starts now people will be outraged by this. We will have to be even more careful with how situations are handled." I turned away going back into the basement to give Chrysalis the good and bad news.
