And tipping the scales at over 12,000 words. Titled The Power of Song for its centerpiece sequence, it will likely be approaching 13k after editing passes. It’s looking very good, having already earned a rave review from AJ_Aficionado, and will be launched tomorrow night, on the eve of my coming vacation to Las Vegas. It is, once again, the final chapter of Into the Storm, but definitely not the last word of the Firefly series. A new book will be started in due course, and
For which I have an announcement. Into the Storm will be marked complete with this final chapter release.
I’ve noticed before that when I release multiple chapters of the same story in rapid succession, the later chapters tend to do more poorly than the initial ones in terms of views and comments. Such was the case here as the fifth Firefly chapter was released with very little apparent interest. There were only three comments on the content, and two of them were to complain about my choice of closing quote.
Every once in a while, your muse kicks in, and then you get on this writing roll and can’t stop. Today was a such a day, as I took my new Firefly chapter from 1600 words all the way to draft complete at 9300 words. So at this point, you can expect it to launch by midweek and probably be in the neighborhood of 10.5k words after all prereads are in and all my editing passes are complete. As this is the fifth of six promised chapters by summer, this also means there should be no issue with
The latest Changeling chapter has 6100 words written, and I consider it likely that I’ll have a completed draft by tomorrow night, running around 9000 words long. I’m doing my best to take DB’s Changeling lore and run with it, with perspectives from all those seen before, and the highlight of the chapter will be a quick confrontation between Queen Lepidoptes herself and Talaeus mage Optio Camilea Aeylyn at battle’s end. I’m trying to expand on her skillset by answering a question regarding
Well, I’m slowly getting better, though I still tire easily, remaining quite congested and not allowed to blow my nose. As a matter of fact, as soon as I post this blog, I believe I’m going to attempt taking a nap. At least I’ve made this week off more or less productive, taking care of chores and getting some promised writing done.
Apologies for not checking in earlier as I promised. To make a long story short, the surgery happened on time and went off without a hitch; I was sent home a few hours later with a stack of gauze and medical tape to catch the seemingly endless drainage. It also hurt, but it turned out I didn’t need more than a couple pills of hydrocodone when all was said and done.
Tentatively titled “Duels and Dilemmas”, I’ve already got 7k words written and am now aiming for a Sunday morning release. It’s time to introduce, or reintroduce, a previously seen character that was the creation of great Denim_Blue (peace be upon him), Gentlemanverse author and master of Changeling lore. So without further ado, here’s a brief teaser, as told from Rock Biter’s perspective:
Harness Hill
Town Square
There was, unfortunately, a concerted downvote attack on Harmonic Resonance yesterday not long after it was published, where I picked up three in the space of an hour. Shady as hell, but no point in reporting it given the mods almost never do anything about it. Annoying, but pointless since I’m not going to stop writing it and the commissioner seems happy. Readers of Midnight Rising are invited anew to check it out since it takes heavily after that story, both in terms of the
I apologize, folks, but you’re going to have to wait a bit for new content. The reason is that there’s been a lot of not-entirely-pleasant stuff happening to me of late, including a long road trip and a minor medical procedure that took up two days of my time—one that required first fasting and ingesting half a gallon of a very unpleasant substance followed by a lot of sitting. Work has picked up as well, and as a result, I’ve had neither much time nor emotional energy to write
I’m about half done with the latter, with four images generated and several more remaining as I need them to show the progression of battle and ensure my narration makes sense. Current plan is to release the chapter, titled The Daisy Regiment, tomorrow night. Feedback so far from AJA and others has been quite good, so here’s the promised teaser, with one of the finished graphics at the end:
Aiming to be draft complete tomorrow, at which point we’ll see about a teaser. Graphics will take longer, but it’s a three-day weekend for me, so there’s plenty of time to work on it. One of the perks of working for a bank is we get all federal holidays off, including Presidents’ Day.
Just a quick note to let everyone know that over five months since the last entry was published, a new chapter of Into the Storm is underway. The first 1400 words are down, and it will detail the second engagement of Rock Biter’s Equestrian Army regiment at Harness Hill, including the story of how they got their nickname of the “Daisy Regiment”.
Titled When Friendships Falter, AJA and I have completed collaboration on it. It’s now in the hands of our other two prereaders, Silentwoodfire and Silverblade5.
What this means is it will launch as scheduled on September 1st, and it currently musters a healthy 10.3k words. It’s time to hear from the Highborne again, and learn what happens when an equally infuriated Fell Flight and Firefly come to blows over Gavian and Thunderbolt. Here, have a teaser:
Sickbay
The anniversary is September 1st, and I can hardly let it pass without a new chapter release. Though I’m getting a late start on it, we’re going to try to get a new chapter ready in time. And by ‘we’ I mean me and AJ_Aficionado, who will be guest-writing a new Highborne sequence. We saw the Nightborne last chapter, so we’ll see the other side of the thestral divide in the new chapter. Needless to say, the griffies are playing both bat-pony factions against each other here; they don’t mind one
It’s amazing what a little time off can do for your creative juices. I have a couple rounds of editing and need to make two or three minor maps in Photoshop before it’s fully ready, but ready it will be for launch this evening. Hopefully that will be a good way for readers to start their weekends.
After a work-enforced two weeks away from writing, I’m finally on a weeklong vacation, and the result has been rapid progress on the next Firefly chapter, now at 6500 words and growing quickly. Though I’m uncertain of its final length, there’s a very good chance you’re going to see it launched on or before the weekend. Prereaders, stand by.
Thanks to all who read and a warm welcome to those who came aboard! Please comment, folks, as I’ve seen only one so far on the new Feathered Hearts chapter as of this blog post.
It’s with prereaders now, delayed by my workload, which has resulted in nearly 40 extra hours worked over the past two and a half weeks--and I damn well better get some comp time for that! Unfortunately, even when prereaders finish with the new chapter, it’s not ready yet--I still have to make some graphics and do song selections for it, which will take some time. So I ask your indulgence for a little longer. It may be a week, or it may be less, but the new chapter release is coming.
