Coming up on the 4-year anniversary of Into the Storm... · 7:42pm Aug 23rd, 2021
The anniversary is September 1st, and I can hardly let it pass without a new chapter release. Though I’m getting a late start on it, we’re going to try to get a new chapter ready in time. And by ‘we’ I mean me and AJ_Aficionado, who will be guest-writing a new Highborne sequence. We saw the Nightborne last chapter, so we’ll see the other side of the thestral divide in the new chapter. Needless to say, the griffies are playing both bat-pony factions against each other here; they don’t mind one bit if they end up at each other’s throats.
8 days to release is cutting it rather fine, but we’ll do our best. I’ve already got 1500 words down or so. If it’s too much, and we can’t get it done to satisfaction? Then I’ll just release a new appendix instead, maybe about Gryphon Command Chains--what they represent, what powers of command they grant, the different types, etc. I’ve made a big deal of Gilda’s diplomatic command chain over in Feathered Hearts: Continuation and Chronicles, so you’ll finally learn exactly what authority it grants her. I should also mention that prereader Silverblade5 has also submitted an AAR (after-action report) to me on the Battle of Harness Hill, but I’ll save that for later, once the Maresk campaign concludes.
After the upcoming Into the Storm release, it’s going to be almost entirely clop from me for the next couple months in the leadup to Halloween. I’ll be working on my Unleash the Magic stories exclusively, unless my coming surgery leaves me in no mood for it for a time, in which case I’ll likely do some Feathered Hearts chapter edits. I plan to write a mixture of Midnight Rising and Nightmare Night, ending with the latter for its Halloween anniversary.
I’ve also had at least one query about continuing Unleash the Magic: Temptations and Transformations. Well... the problem there is, that story offers the least bang for the buck for me. It has the least following and has typically resulted in the least amount of feedback; I had just two regular commenters on it, which wasn’t that much of a payoff for the amount of effort I put into it. I’m tempted just to call it complete with the end of the first ten-chapter story arc, and if I want to write other arcs, release them as separate stories. I’ll give it some thought.
Bottom line: plenty of plans and coming attractions. So stick around as we mark four years since the start of Into the Storm, and then slowly build through both UTM stories to the climactic confrontation between Midnight and Eclipse over in Nightmare Night!
How time flies. Huge props for still going hard on The Flight of Firefly after 4 years. It takes some real fortitude, and hopefully author enjoyment, on these long, ongoing projects.
Still one of the best war fics here, I really appreciate you and the effort put into this story
