This is a little something I found on Twitter.

Not so surprising, there were some people that called this video homophobic. The thing is, though, his words speak truth. Christians shouldn’t be forced to support things that they don’t believe to be right, like homosexuality or abortion. What we should do is treat others like the brothers they are, with kindness and love. We should love and support them as people, not for what they do and the paths they take.

7241162 Interesting find. As a Christian, I personally just love people the way they are because Jesus loves everyone/ God created everything to be loved by him. Christians all have their own views on things. I always just try to think about the love Jesus and God have for humanity and everything God created.

A Youtube video rant on the hypocrisy of anti lockdown protests being condemned as being reckless "cuz Corona" while more "woke" ones being supported and even actively encouraged.

LyraAlluse

7302243 Yeah it is weird how they claim that protesting doesn't spread the virus. You know that thing where thousands of people come in close contact with one another. But going to the store and standing to close to someone does?? It's nonsense.

San Bernardino Votes to Secede from California, Form 'Empire' State

https://www.newsweek.com/san-bernardino-california-county-votes-secede-form-possible-empire-state-1758866

I had no idea San Bernadino was this based, the powers that be probably won't allow them to secede, but King George III wasn't exactly going to just let us leave either. After the shitshow with the midterms national divorce should at least be considered.

Well, forming a new state is at least less radical than a new country.

Still, if we're going to make new states, I think Puerto Rico and Washington, DC should get made states first...

--Sweetie Belle

EarthbendingProdigy

7765900 Puerto Rico is going to be a lot easier to make a state than DC as that can go through the regular process. Making DC a state will require a constitutional amendment as the original intent behind DC was that as the seat of the federal government it wouldn't be subject to the whims of a particular state. Since as the seat of federal government it is supposed to represent all states I do understand why things were made that way, though I also understand why some want to make DC a state.

This is definitely going great for Raspberry Pi. They post this on Mastadon and a cut down version on Twitter, then started blocking people left and right that responded to it suggesting it might not be a good look. They seem to be well on the way to killing a lot of their good will at this point, and I think their instance is about to start getting blocked by places...

Who honestly thinks saying that an ex-cop that uses Raspberry Pi's to spy on people now works for the company is something you actually want to promote?

I found out why people are hating on Chris Pratt. Apparently it was because of his political views. Do people not know how to separate the artist from their views anymore?

LyraAlluse

7779125 I like Chris Pratt personally. :)

7779144
I just like him as an actor not so much on his political views so I can agree with that.

LyraAlluse

7779145 Yeah he's a good actor.

LyraAlluse

7779147 What went on with Butch Hartman? I'm out of the loop with that.

7779149
He scammed a lot of people and also had bad political views.

LyraAlluse
Group Admin

7779150 How did he scam? I think I remember hearing something about a fundraiser. I never looked too much into it though.

7779153
He overcharges for art commission and he even asked for donations to make a streaming service that never happened and that was over a decade ago when he made his announcement. From what I heard he also steals fan art from his fans as well.

LyraAlluse
Group Admin

7779154 That's unfortunate to hear. :/

7779155
Yeah but what happened happened. Different artist but I also think it is weird that people are denying the fact that JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter.

I don't think people are saying that JK didn't write them, unless I missed something. There've been plenty of people saying that she stole some of the ideas in the books, and there are definitely things you can point to there.

There was the whole "The Legend of Rah and the Muggles" lawsuit by Nancy Stouffer. Trouble is that while that book did have the word "muggles" first, it wasn't originally in the title, and the lawsuit was dismissed when they found that out.

And, of course, Neil Gaiman wrote a graphic novel before Harry Potter, The Books of Magic, and the main character, Tim Hunter, has messy hair and glasses, has someone come to his home and tell him that he's a wizard, and gets a pet owl. Shame is that if it ever becomes a movie, they'll have to change the character to look less like Harry now.

Neil Gaiman's written this about it, though:

Back in November I was tracked down by a Scotsman journalist who had noticed the similarities between my Tim Hunter character and Harry Potter, and wanted a story. And I think I rather disappointed him by explaining that, no, I certainly *didn't* believe that Rowling had ripped off Books of Magic, that I doubted she'd read it and that it wouldn't matter if she had: I wasn't the first writer to create a young magician with potential, nor was Rowling the first to send one to school. It's not the ideas, it's what you do with them that matters.

Genre fiction, as Terry Pratchett has pointed out, is a stew. You take stuff out of the pot, you put stuff back. The stew bubbles on.

And that's the thing. There's a long tradition of stories about boarding schools. There's a long tradition with stories about wizards in training. You've got Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea series and The Once and Future King and such.

Besides, there are much better things to criticize in her books, like the idea that Dobby was just a weirdo and most of the house elves love being slaves, and that Hermione was being wrong-headed by trying to free them. Or the way in which none of the conditions that led to Lord Voldemort rising ever got taken care of, and Harry becomes a slave-owning cop who names his kid after a bigoted teacher that terrorized generations of kids and steered them away from any notion of pursuing potions they might have had.

I liked the first few books, but was less and less into the series in the last few, and I've gradually started looking back and feeling like there were a lot of issues on the series all along...

I don't think people are saying that JK didn't write them

You are correct. The talk is more in a sense "she shouldn't get royalty because of her political views".

there are much better things to criticize in her books, like the idea that Dobby was just a weirdo and most of the house elves love being slaves, and that Hermione was being wrong-headed by trying to free them.

First. They don't love being slaves they love their jobs. There were the whole bunch of examples when house-elves were shown to express reaction to the orders they are given - either liking it and do things willingly, or not liking and forced to obey.

And second, that was the whole point of that sub-plot, showing that Hermione in her self-righteous desire to "free house-elves from following what their masters told them" herself assumed a role of such "master" who thinks to know what is better for them instead of themselves. There was actually a similar themed sub-plot in "Rising of the Shield Hero" and, obviously, the same crowd screeched about it.

none of the conditions that led to Lord Voldemort rising ever got taken care of

I'm not sure what are you talking about. Condition was - he was very talented in magic and wasn't afraid to abuse it.

Harry becomes a slave-owning cop

Honestly, I don't remember ending all that much. Did he owned another house-elf in the end?

One thing I hope that is going to happen in the new Powerpuff Girls coming from Craig McCracken is that all of the original cast is going to be coming back. Including EG Daily, Tara Strong, Cathy Cavadini and also hope the new voice talent added to it is going to be awesome too. The new characters including the villains are awesome. Also with story ideas and elements they should adapt stories and plots from the Powerpuff Girls IDW Comics and the DC Comics ones too. They should also have the Powerpunk Girls appear in it too and have them voiced by Amanda Leighton, Natalie Morales, Kristen Li cause that would be awesome if that happened and it would be a great reference to the 2016 reboot which was godawful as everyone already knows by now.

I don't like these rumblings on the right about banning porn, for those that are saying "it will never happen" I and many others here thought the same thing about much of the woke insanity we are currently witnessing as well. While we are in dire need to a correction, humanity has a rather nasty habit of correcting by going way too far the other way. It probably won't happen tomorrow, but might in 10-20 years or so. I still remember when the religious right still had actual political power, it wasn't that long ago the W Bush got re-elected in part because of "values".

To be fair increasing acceptance is a major part of it as less people feel inclined to stay in the closer than they did 30 years ago, but it has gotten to the point where it has become a fad. There is no realistic way that 1/3 of American teenagers are actually LGBT, even the highly left wing Bill Maher is starting to call bullshit on that. Once they started adding more letters to the LGBT acronym to the point where it looks like a cat hopped onto someone's computer keyboard I stopped even bothering to keep up. I still don't care what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own bedroom and will honor pronouns within reason (I am not doing this neopronoun shit) but nobody can keep up with the ever increasing number of make believe identities that even most of the people that identify with probably don't even understand.

I grew up in the 90s when excessive labeling was actually considered a bad thing even by many on the left, and I miss those days. Those teachings resonated with me in large part because I grew up as an Autistic child struggling to fit in with a world that often made no sense to me. I didn't want to be seen as "special" or some poor victim, I just wanted to be seen as and treated as a person like anyone else. I understood my neurological status made certain things different from me, but that was never what I wanted to solely define my life by because doing so would mean that that controlled my life. This fad not only makes zero sense to me, but I find it a very tragic step backwards. While I don't want to have everyone who isn't straight stuffed back into the closet, it is becoming increasingly apparent that this isn't the answer either.

I've found that the older I get, the more tempting it becomes to explain to certain people that the way they articulate their personal objections to someone else being gay line up with how closeted people sometimes try to obfuscate the fact that they're in so deep that they might briefly see Narnia if they held their breath long enough.

The war pigs oinked quite loudly yesterday, the trough should have been removed decades ago. Moments like this are what I show to people who insist that there is no duopoly. These pointless wars only serve to make more people hate us which creates more terrorists which makes us less safe, but war has always been and always will be the health of the state.

Or, you know, so people that live someplace that's part of the United States can actually have representation?

There's a law, the Jones Act, from 1920, that requires that any goods shipped from one American port to another be transported on a ship that is American-built, American-owned, and crewed by US citizens or permanent residents. It effectively doubles the cost of anything being shipped to and from Puerto Rico. It's actually one of the reasons they are in such bad shape. And there's no one representing them in the government to fight for repealing it...

Admittedly, given that Trump didn't seem to think they were part of the us, called them one of the most corrupt places in the world, and did everything he could to prevent them from getting hurricane aid, they would probably vote Democratic. :unsuresweetie:
