When it comes to an economy of numbers and force, I'd rather have the full Mass Effect team. More eyes and more guns means a greater chance to spot the threat before it attacks and being able to deal with it by sheer volume of fire. Plus unless you're dealing with a fire-and-fade insurgency or something that lacks fear and/or survival instincts, nobody is going to want to take on a large force.

If I need a small, but elite strike force, I'd go with Buck's ODSTs. Normal humans who are trained in deep strike insertion and shock-and-awe tactics.
