Putting the 'Fun' into Thunder. · 11:17am Aug 19th, 2022
I mentioned in my last post that this latest chapter (session 1.25) has been a pain to write. It has. Ignoring irl issues of course (heat, work, fatigue, illness) I've been grafting at the laptop to define the uncertainty in Calmys heart whilst also expanding on his outside life. In some ways, it's hard for me to imagine Calmy (cool, mostly confident, often in control) outside of his office. Even his home is fairly sterile, justifiably and with possible explanation in the future. Still, writing him in a more relaxed, family environment hasn't been easy. He's very focused on his work as we've seen.
Thunder 'Fun' Storm is a mixed character to me. She's the chalk to Calmy's cheese, the brawn to his brain. I was hesitant about her using the 'r' word, but feel it fits her character as we see. I mean she's no angel, but she's certainly not a monster. Fun is that one family member you've got who you know is a nice enough person, loving, caring etc, but has zero tact, little sensibilities and barrels roughshod to get what she wants. A spade is a spade and she doesn't quite understand why everyone walks on tiptoe. I'd say compare her to that one racist granny everyone has, but she's not that bad. It's that kind of cultural drift every older person feels, not helped by her own trollish nature and internal pain.
If of course you're upset about it, then I apologise.
Otherwise, I continue to thank everyone for reading the continuing tribulations of Calmy Storm and Twilight/Midnight Sparkle.
