Three In A Bed

My authorial intent has been hitting something of a brick wall lately. While in my blog post two weeks ago I suggested I'd focus on Three Steps Back, I instead opted to use the May Pairings contest to advance some EQG 'verse plot lines I'd been working on. These failed spectacularly, with 4k words that...aren't *awful* but severely bloated and info dump-y. So, that went on the back-burner. This in turn led to Monday To Friday, 9 to 5 which is also a mess, but one I published. Sleep deprivation is a helluva thing guys and girls! Big thanks to Rego for highlighting my screw ups, which in turn have led me to learn and grow.

Now, I'm not entirely unsatisfied with it, and definitely feel there's something there. However it's going on the back-burner for a bit to percolate, hence the hiatus tag. There's something ironic perhaps about both the two fics mentioned so far being multi chapter affairs I try to put out in a month for a competition, only to get replaced last minuite. Yes, there's a replacement. After two tries I wanted to give it one last shot, the fic itself is complete and currently being glanced over to ensure it's in tippy-top shape.

Now, you'd think that would mean a return to Twilight Barkle and Three Steps Back, right? Correct! I added another two hundred odd words to the latest chapter two days ago, before getting so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open while writing. However, much like my interactions with the Arboreal yearnings contest, Bicylette's poly contest was nearing its deadline. After an eight hour work day it'd be a foolish thing to blitz out a short entry, right? Especially after I've admitted poly is hard for me to write.

So after a three hour period of recuperation, I spent four hours creating Pillow (And Mattress) Talk, getting it entered with barely twn minuites to spare before the contest closed.

The fic itself is based entirely off the cover art I discovered while browsing derpibooru for inspiration on my lunch break. I can't spell polyamorous very well while trying to ram a sandwhich down my gullet, and keep an eye on the time, so 'Throuple' was the word of the day.

It's a simple little fic. A bit sweet, a bit dramatic, dealing with some of the talk you have in longer term relationships. It's my first time writing Rainbow Dash outside of Flash Of Reflections, and I hope I haven't mangled her. Balancing that line between 'wonderful, confident, loyal' and 'self centred dick' can be a big challenge. Though I'd say one thing that's consistent is Dash doesn't think before she speaks.

Bulk Biceps is an odd one to write, with not a lot of huge canon characterisation, being a meme character initially. I try to run him with his EQG vibes, outwardly very masculine yet surprisingly soft with feminine interests.

I'd say I'm happiest with Fluttershy in this fic overall.

Musically I listened to Kumi Koda's Change My Future , which had the soft feeling I wanted out of such a laid back fic.

Now, with that out of the way I intend to focus on Three Steps Back again. I want at least two chapters out before I attempt anything else, not including flash fiction or the 1000 word competition coming up. Both are small enough that it's not a big hindrance on the Reflectionsverse work.
