So I have been looking over Believe in Magic and come to an unwanted conclusion.
That being that the tragedy at the start of the story does not actually fit in with the rest of the story and its overall tone. So I am removing this aspect of the story and transferring it to another EQG story I have in the works.
This second story has a much more serious overall tone and the lingering issues that such a loss tends to cause will be able to be confronted there. Said secondary story is called Every Time We Touch, and is better geared towards dealing with more weighty issues such as the loss of family at a young age.
As for the actual night and its immediate aftermath they are going to put into a prequel story that will come before Every Time We Touch to better show the effects on Brianna, Megan, and their blossoming relationship. It won't be a long form story, but it won't be a one-shot either.
In all honesty, I don't have a working title or projected chapter length as of yet. I'll figure it out as get more idea and gather some momentum for it.
On the upside, I won't have to throw out any of the really good suggestions given to me by Everfree Pony and Chaotic Ink. If anything those idea will get the attention they merit.
I am pretty happy about that really. It's a good thing.
Now this doesn't mean that Believe in Magic will be all sunshine and rainbows, no. It's a magical girl story at its core. And some of those can get pretty "dark". How far that ends up going I can't say yet. It's best to think as being a modern fantasy type of set up to at least some extent.
This decision wasn't made out of any sense of dissatisfaction as I have worked through that before. No, it's rather been made as a result me needing to get out of the "square peg, round hole' scenario I put myself in.
A bit of short sightedness on my part that was. Ponyfeathers.
Now, in other news, I have become involved in a collaborative effort once again. Basically by chance no less.
Storm Luna and I have been going back and forth for a couple of days now about an idea for yet another EQG story. The working title so far is Girlfriend after the Avril Lavine song of the same name.
I accidentally introduced Storm to Avril's music when talking with him about this song after hearing again while waiting to get my haircut.
This story doesn't have the light-hearted tone the official music video for the song has and like ETWT will be delving into some weightier stuff. So those of you might be put off by drama might want to stay clear.
All the more I can about Girlfriend right now is that it will have the Dazzlings, Juniper Montage, Storm's O.C. Luke, and my O.C. Brandy as the main cast with appearances by Sunset Shimmer and Rainbow Dash at one point. The rest of the Mane seven will likely have a part in the story, but I can't how big of a part right now.
It's still in pre-production at the moment.
