Question: Transmutation · 5:22am Jul 24th, 2022
I need to understand the concept of Transmutation a little better. I know only tidbits of Transmutation, but what I know is woefully little or misconception.
I understand Transmutation is the process of transforming something into something else, and it is associated with Alchemy. That's honestly it.
Anything else I think I know, I feel is misconception or outright wrong. I've tried to understand Transmutation more than once but I don't really know how to wrap my head around it. But on an episode of "The Flash" I heard that Transmutation is like... "unzipping" the atomic structure of a material to release the energy inside of it and then change it into something else.
I'm not sure if that's accurate or not, but I honestly considered it more enlightening than "Fullmetal Alchemist"
Another time I saw Transmutation was in the Marvel movie, "The Eternals", where one of the titular Eternals, Sersi, had the power to manipulate and transform matter through physical touch, such as turning soil into water or an entire bus into a bunch of butterflies. When she got a power boost, she used her power to turn an entire Celestial into stone, and a fellow Eternal, Sprite, into a human
I guess I'm trying to look at this in a fantastical way while keeping it grounded in a way that seems logical, a... balance between fantasy and reality.
If anyone out there could explain this in a way that makes sense to a fantasy nerd, I'd appreciate it
Well, it depends on which fictional universe you're taking inspiration from and how someone uses transmutation. Do you they need specific materials to turn thing A into thing B? What is the magical cost to transform something? Maybe they don't actually transform it but rather they switch it out with something else? The details are up to you to decide.
Its kinda like the concept of time travel.
Every story universe has a different way they handle it.
