Chapter 22 is Still in the Oven · 1:29am Mar 17th, 2022

Been a minute since an update blog, so let's do some catching up. How're you all? I hope you're doing well. I am currently sleep deprived because a 7.4 earthquake decided I should get a shot of adrenaline at 11:30ish at night and I didn't sleep well at all after that. It does speak to Japan's dependable infrastructure that I lost power during the shaking, but once everything settled back down, everything was fine. Even my shelve protectors worked like a charm and nothing much fell over.

So, I'm glad I've given myself two weeks per chapter (which was interrupted by a two week stay in the Zecora/Guard de Lis AU, but I digress) since it's been a little busy around here with the year winding down. Granted, I don't take any work home, but getting things finished before the final class day has been a little draining. Plus, I've been replaying Xenoblade Chronicles to unwind after work, but this time it looks pretty in the Definitive Edition rather than the Wii/3DS versions. It's one of my favorite JRPGs of all time, and I've played many of them over the years. The story goes kinda wackadoodle weird, but that's par for the course with Monolithsoft. I just find its world so interesting to explore.

I do have a point in bringing up Xenoblade in realizing that both share similarities in dealing with the future/fate weaving. Fancy Pants isn't nearly as powerful as Shulk is, but it's not entirely dissimilar in how I imagined Fancy Pants experiencing his talent. Fancy just has more control unless his cutie mark is really pressing him like it was on Hearth's Warming Eve. Sometimes you forget your influences and have to be reminded of what inspires you. It's a good way to excuse myself for playing through an entire JRPG when I am supposed to be writing horse words. Still, a guys gotta relax a bit after writing couplets for two weeks and another yet-released thing.

So, back to Electro Swing, the chapter is a bit slow going because I'm at a little bit of an interesting cross roads. I don't want to spoil anything, so I will talk about the story in nebulous imagery that shouldn't spoil anything unless you've correctly guessed about 3 major plot points. If you aren't fully caught up, I'd skip it anyway.

I spent a very long time pushing Vinyl down the stairs and then burning said staircase before she could climb back up. Just before I pushed her down the bottomless pit, she found a rope lowered by a maid and climbed up as well as she could with her clumsy hooves. Now that she is on a different trajectory, know exactly where I want her to go, but I need to find a staircase to climb up to get there. I can't skip the process since I spent so much time pushing her down the stairs. It'd feel weird to skip up an elevator. So, right now, I'm trying to make the staircase interesting to climb. I found a way to do so, but I don't know exactly where the footfalls are. Good thing Spring Break is coming up so I'll have ample time to craft something that isn't a chore to read through. I need at least 3 chapters to let certain things stew before we can get to the end of this next major story beat. That's where we are at right now in chapter 22.

In other news, got about a week until that secret thing I'm pretty excited about comes out. It is Electro Swing-related, so I'll be sure to inform y'all when its out. I haven't been ignoring Electro Swing entirely during my days with Zecora, but it is something that is also cooking in the background. As far as its canonicity to the story, I'll let you decide. It should be fun though.

See you in the next blog!

Well, that's some unfortunate timing, to say the very least. Happy to hear that the earthquake didn't do much lasting damage beyond leaving you, well, shaken.

I don't mind the gap. Truthfully, some coincidentally timed events on this site have taken a chunk out of me, I’m afraid, so unintentional as it was, I've appreciated the short "break". Take all of the time you need.

In the meantime, I'll be waiting in the wings for my cue!

You're quite welcome. After putting you through 10K word couplet hell, I think we both needed a little breather.
