Music and its purpose.

Star's only half right... Music's Main purpose is to in fact EXPRESS emotion, as well as modulate it, but not all of it is supposed to make you happy.

This is a very crushing song that promotes the feeling of heartbreak and despair. (Sure doesn't make you feel happy, and it's not supposed to either)

This song, not only promotes despair, but also fury about hating people and memories you have. (No smiles here)

This song can be considered a little bit happy, but it's really supposed to promote courage and strength for a long journey ahead. That doesn't seem too much of a happy ending.

One of my other beliefs is that Music is also used to get a point across. That's why in fiction people just suddenly break out into a song and maybe a dance too. They're not really trying to be entertaining, but rather telling you to "Get it through your head"

So yes, music CAN be used to hurt people as well.

Heck, music is one of the things that triggers my muse of the Dark Side (Happy or not)

I prefer the characters use music to cause/express pain and suffering (emotionally)

He/She/They won't use their music to entertain and become famous. (Especially if their music can't be used that way) and either can only or prefer to only use it the way they can, wish to.

"My/Our music is for anger and depression ONLY! If it looks the least bit happy, don't throw it our way."

"Hey, yutz! Songs/Music aren't toys. They're for Educational purposes, expressing of emotion, and getting a quick point across."

Still as Star pointed out, Music CAN make you happy or at least feel a little bit better or entertained, but its main purpose is to EXPRESS emotion as well MODULATE it.

What you use it for is YOUR priority.

Desperate to finally tell Rarity she's the love of his life, Spike makes a little music vid for her (Putting it on that special holo-image disk)

But he keeps chickening out every time he comes close to giving it to her, and things grow more complicated when Rarity falls in love with Esroh Dab.

Eventually, Rarity discovers the disk and sees the song, much to Spike's embarrassment (But later, delight)

This song doesn't feel happy to me, but is rather a grieving person desperate to confess his feelings.

And that is one of my favorite ways to write about it-- pretending the character is singing, not realizing they are being watched or overheard.

Jody and Sam wonder what's wrong with Jeff, and Muffy tells them why.

Or even when I make stories like when other characters learn the truth about another character (Like a gurdian angel shows them the past/present/future."

It's a good song (Not a happy one) but rather than the Evil King Jong Il (Puppet) imagine a well-to-do person who isn't evil does good for all, works so hard, and yet has nothing to show for it

He/She sings that song (Without the Elmer Fudd like wording) and the other characters get their wake up call that maybe they have been a little harsh on the character.

Still, Music is a great inspiration as well use of expression and modulation.
