Why are the ponies so selfish towards other kingdoms? · 5:22am Jan 15th, 2022
All they talk about is only Equestria and not the other kingdoms. They think that only their land matters and not the other ones when that's not true. Why won’t anypony acknowledge the other kingdoms instead of just Equestria?
They need to actually care about the other kingdoms and creatures and not use or hurt them for their own benefit and only for their home without the other homes outside of Equestria.
Again, I know I've been bashing ponies, especially the Mane Six, for far too long and I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I'm just really stressed out about how selfish ponies are towards other creatures and I just want them to acknowledge them and their own kingdoms as well as treat them with genuine respect and empathy.
How would the Mane Six react to all this, though?
Celestia stood by and did nothing while Griffonstone fell into total economic collapse. Letting a country that shares a border with your own become a third-world hell-hole weakens your country economically and politically. The refugee crisis alone would have been a financial nightmare for Equestria, not to mention that they would have to expend resources and troops to deal with the influx of griffons that were fleeing the total economic and political collapse of their country.
Then there's Mt. Aris. Queen Novo is supposed to be a personal friend of Celestia. Equestria stood by and did nothing when the Storm King invaded, forcing the hippogriffs to flee to the bottom of the ocean.
Then there's Yakyakistan. What sort of chuckle-headed buffoon did Celestia send as envoy to piss the yaks off so much that they declared essentially a bloodless war.
Then there's the kirin. The Perilous Peaks are part of Equestria. Why did Celestia let things get so bad with the dragon-ponies that the only way to deal with it was to forcibly silence themselves using a magical stream?
That's not going into what the changelings were like before Queen Chrysalis.
I think this has more of an indictment of Celestia's centuries of solitary leadership.
The 'in show' explanation is simple... it is a show about ponies, not other creatures. Plus, adding a level of politics beyond a simple 'send two characters there to do X' would feel too complicated for the target audience.
That said, in the real world, the problem of 'caring about other kingdoms' is a complex one. It involves middling within the internal politics of a foreign country - often a country with a different culture and values - and the effects are almost always disastrous.
Want an example? Just look at the recent FUBAR that is Afghanistan. The US went in, killed the 'bad' Taliban, and began spreading western values. For a while, everything seemed to be going the 'right' way... but it was just a mirage. See... the problem (one of many) was that while some people living there liked western values, the majority did not. It took 20 years, but when shit hit the fan, it all went to hell in a hand-basket in a matter of months.
Too many western people with good intentions naively believe their values are universal. They think they can just go somewhere and force their ways on others, and these people will accept it without opposition. In reality, that almost never happens.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions. If in the real world, Celestia tried to impose some sort of 'order' in Griffonstone, even with best intentions, she would most likely have had a rebel of Griffons on her hooves for meddling in their internal affairs.
This is Pandora's box that no competent leader wants to open. That's why most countries intervene only when the majority of people of some country ask them for help.
So no, I don't think Equestria was selfish towards anyone - they're just acting in the smartest way possible given the circumstances .
Did you miss the show's title of My Little Pony? Not My Little insert species name here. 5627898 explained it best. It's not as simple as you might think it is for Equestria to help. Assuming other countries even want help.
