Angel Midnight

maybe in a world of odd people and odd things, I'm not so odd after all. But who knows. (they/them)

Oh my Celestia, did the teacher just say that? · 3:19pm Jan 4th, 2022

My head of year: *visits classroom to check everyone is following uniform policy*
Me: Here goes...
Head of year: *stops at my desk* I was told something about you having zips on your trousers?
Me: *stands up so he can see the zipped pockets*
Head of year: Yeah... Those aren't allowed.
Me: I've been wearing them for months now...
Head of year: I know, but they're against school policy. I know it's unreasonable to ask you to sort this out by tomorrow, but could you get some new ones by next week?
Me: *annoyed* I can't just buy any trousers. Because of my health issues I have to wear what feels comfortable. (This is true, actually. I have bowel disease, and it gets stupidly painful sometimes.)
Head of year: Well, there's other students in the school wit health issues and they still have to wear school uniform. (Not true - the school does make exceptions for some students.) But I'll speak to your parents about it. *walks away before I can say anything else*

Seriously? I have health issues that mean that I have to wear certain clothes just to keep out of pain, and the school would rather me be in pain than break their precious policy? Ugh, and he's one of the nice teachers, too. :facehoof:

They should let you wear what you need to.

*hugs her tightly*

There's a lot of things they *should* do...
5624235
Ow... not so tight...

I mean, at least he'll talk to your parents

5624239
Yeah. After reading this, I'm thinking Buck school policies.

5624239
sorry

but besides that, If he were a teacher here, I bet all the "bad" kids will be on him

5624241
Should I threaten to go on strike or something?
5624242
He's usually one of those "strict but fair" type teachers, but today he's just being "strict."
Student: *walks into assembly hall*
Him: Where's your face mask?
Student: I'm exempt.
Him: Well, you're not exempt from doing your top button up.

I guess, and I know they'll back me up. So that's a positive. But still, why are the teachers so strict about uniform?!

My math teacher is the strictest I have and he's more chill than your head of the year :|

What. The. Heck.

I hate this more than you can know. I have a small personal history of just utter nonsense teachers would do, but this is right there among the top stuff.

I may or may not also be a little passionate about nonsenses in the education system, which makes me all the more angry at this.

I'm not sure what I can do, but I can say I forbid my bestie from wearing anything that harms her, and giving in to that at the cost of her health. Null, nada. I forbid.
(Joking of course, but seriously, please take care of yourself. I know it's all the more hard in situations like this, but at the end of the day, your health is the most important of all, and I'm sure others here (and beyond) would agree :pinkiesad2:)

Wow! I thought my school was the only one that had such strict policies! In my school, you aren't allowed to wear any coloured jumpers other than black and red. And the jumper has to be plain which means no writing or drawings on it.

I'm gonna agree with you on that one.

what the fuck? they care more about looks and shit than the students H E AltH

Here's what you need to do: look him dead in the eye, describe your specific health issues, and then explain in excruciating detail what happens if you're forced to comply. If he insists regardless, get his statement in writing, hit him with the Malicious Compliance, and milk the fallout for everything it's worth.

5624252
Don't laugh, this actually happened. Although it was slightly amusing at the time...
5624258
*Me planning how best to go on strike even though it'll probably never happen*

5624261
What the... How are your teachers so calm?!

5624268
5624295
Don't worry, I won't give in. I'm wearing what I feel comfortable in. School policy says I need a letter from the doctors if I want to get away with it, so I've asked my dad to email my doctors. Hopefully he gets it done quickly so the teachers leave me alone.

5624380
that's good to hear

5624381
*hugs back* :3

That would be a potential solution in an ideal world. But due to the new rules implemented last year, we are now not allowed into the school if we're too early, have to be frogmarched around everywhere, have restrictions on where we can go during our free time, and are also frogmarched out of the school at the end of the day, so we don't have any opportunities to speak to teachers about our problems. Convenient for them, isn't it?

5624373
Indian standards are low. For my Math teacher, you must not shout in class and be good in math for him to be chill.

5624386
Sheesh, what kind of Orwellian education camp are you in?! Still, my bad for treating it like a work thing.

5624524
That would be ok. Most of the time in class, I just sit there quietly and get on with my work, and that helps me get the marks I need in the exams. But apparently that's not enough for the UK teachers to leave me alone. Ugh...

5624538
The result of a chain of events caused essentially by a change in headteachers. Rules have changed, punishments have become more strict, and actually all that's happening is that the good kids are getting punished for silly things. And although the school day constantly that they "want to hear students' opinions," when it comes to punishment they say they want "no arguments and no conversations" with pupils.

5624563
Indian teachers maybe cool but the Indian education system is merciless.

5624570
The English education system can't be that much better. It's nightmarish.

5624615
We'd have to check study load to compare accurately.

5624618
Fine, I probably don't have to do as much studying, but the bureaucracy, the uniforms and the enforcement of rules in the UK make it a lot more miserable.

My school doesn't care what you are wearing until it gets distracting to the students' education

5624777
Anyway, sorry you have to go through that, I agree with 5624330 on this, in fact, call the school to get to the teacher, then do. it if you can't in person

5624779
I might be able to get around this with a doctor's note. Now the only problem is that the teachers keep bugging me about it, asking when I'll be able to get the new uniform and not giving me a chance to explain why I can't.
