Mockingbirb

A pony of mystery in the darkness. Or I forgot to take the lens cap off. (They/them is fine.)

December 2021 "Mockingbirb's Opinionated Flashfic Award" (MOFA) Results, and January 2022 Contest Theme - 1:36pm · 1:36pm Jan 4th, 2022

The December 2021 contest prompt was "It's a Gift!"

After some careful consideration, December's MOFA First Place winner is TheAncientPolitzanian, for "Three Hundred and Thirty-Three."

I remarked to Politzanian:

I like how the prose, instead of being tortured to fit the word limit, is natural and smooth and serves the story well.

Politzanian replied:

Oh, believe me, it was very, very tortured. I just know the right words to hide it.

As a special accomplishment, Politzanian included different colors of text in a story without making me want to vomit, which is my more usual reaction to that sort of thing. So, extra congratulations!

P's successful flouting of a rule of conventional literature (no pink or other colored text!) brings us to the January 2022 contest prompt: "Break the Rules!"

How to Enter the January 2022 MOFA Contest

Just enter Loganberry's January 2022 Flashfic 150 Contest, and your story will automatically be considered for the MOFA too! It's really that easy!

With this month's prompt, "Break the Rules!" your story could be about someone breaking a rule, or (I suppose?) any other pleasing interpretation of the prompt.

We also have an extra "Optional Challenge" invitation to break at least one "rule" of "how to write."
Preferably, write a story that isn't made worse by breaking the rule, but instead uses its freedom to good effect.

You could break a rule that most of us learned in school, or a rule that people in fanfiction communities yell at each other, or even a tip from an accomplished professional writer.

You can provide an author's note with your story to talk about which rule you broke, possibly with links and other references if you like. Example writing rules from some different sources are linked here.

The Flashfic 150 rules are here.

Have fun! And remember, opinions are like...something everyone has! :trollestia:
