    Story update and other stuff

Believe it or not I've actually started a new job at long last. I'd only planned on staying with my last employer six months, but ended up being stuck there for nearly five years. During my time there I had to put up with some of the worst bigotry I've ever encountered, despite the company claiming to be 'inclusive, supportive of diversity, etc'. Spoiler alert : They weren't!

    Bon Bon's story.

Seems to be coming along well. 365 pages at 192,769 words.

    We'll get there.

    Story Update

Now on page 280 of Bon Bon's story. Looking good so far, but quite a technical challenge as she's been involved in other parts of the Fairlight story arc and I need to be careful tying it all together. I'm also aware that I will need to incorporate Lyra's story into it too.

    Continuing on

Despite one of the readers claiming that they had felt like vomiting after reading my last story, I have pressed on with my scribblings. Apparently eliciting a physical and -or- an emotional response from a story is considered a good thing. Or so I'm told.

Having read the helpful comments regarding Island of the Forgotten, I've decided to take the story down pending a major rewrite.

The follow up will have to be put on hold as a result (Once I finish the first chapter), however I may publish it when it's ready in case anyone fancies a bit of a 'teaser trailer'.

Regards,

Bluespectre

How big will the changes be? I thoroughly enjoyed it. not that I would mind reading it again, just curious.

I have question if you take it down...Does that mean you took off site? I am just curious because I will be reoutlining and expanding , a series I did and was rather curious. Since the two chapter I wrote well, actually four that I wrote? Do not fit the tone and style well...

Thank you.

From what I can see your story is simply no longer viewable by the public. It's still there, but now it's in the pre-published state. You make adjustments/editing at your leisure and simply hit 'Publish' when you're good to go.

A good question. Thanks for reading by the way, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was beginning to think I'd really dropped the ball here, especially after someone said it had made them feel 'physically sick' and compared it to the ending of Game of Thrones!

I had originally planned to incorporate elements of Sweetie's arc into the forthcoming Fairlight story, however I can fully appreciate how the ending may have been inexplicable for readers who haven't read any of the Fairlight Series. That was a bit of a blunder on my part.

In a nutshell the plan is to incorporate Sweetie's story into Lyra's, running the two simultaneously and bringing them together at the end. Having separate viewpoints in a story can work well, and in this case I feel will be complementary. Not only that but I think it will make the story more well rounded and really draw the reader into the world, unveiling other mysteries and hinting at more to come.

I was in the middle of writing the follow up (Called 'Doorways' as a placeholder) which concentrates on Galeus' life. It shines light on the builders of the portals and the origins of the island. It's on hold now until I get the Lyra story sorted out.

Bear with me, as I don't have the time I once had to write, but I get there in the end.

Thanks again,

Oh so that's what happened to the story. It stuck around in my mind, but since the fic was taken down, I could no longer find it or your account, for that matter.

I still stand by my point that the ending was really badly done, but for what it's worth, I do still feel pretty bad about tearing into it the way I did a year or so ago. When I saw that the fic was gone and I could no longer find your account, I feared that you'd taken everything down, stopped writing entirely. That's not at all what I would've wanted to achieve.

You do have what it takes to write a good story, and yours did engross me to the point that I read it to the very end. It's just that that ending took me completely off kilter. I realize that I can't demand every story to have a happy ending, that's a massive limitation on storytelling, but your ending really did feel like it invalidated all or most of the story that came before it. There should be at least something to take away from it all, or if not, you should not be surprised if people don't take it well.

Apart from all that, I'd advise you to be more careful when incorporating sensitive topics in your writing. Above all else, the casual rape joke near the end of the fic is what took the ending from bad to awful for me.

All in all, I do just hope you're doing well and that you don't take my criticisms too hard. I do admit I have a tendency to be overly harsh.
