Art for Celestia Regina · 11:24pm Jul 1st, 2021

Hello there! My good friend Grace (who drew the cover to The First Second of Eternity and Wallflower of Canterlot has decided to draw a certain scene from Celestia Regina, just for fun! For a novice pony artist, I'd say it turned out well enough :twilightsmile:

Without further ado, Celestia reads to the children of Vanhoover;

As a bonus, she also drew the ferrymare a while ago, with goggles. Goggles are cool, and the ferrymare likes them;

Cheers!

So I do have a question, and I love the art. You said Luna was still there when her daughters died. But with how rambly the story got, I think I missed it. Any help?

Still sad that their lines ended, instead of growing as they did in the kinda-sorta prequel.

“Now, I see little reason to be as stingy,” Celestia remarked. “I don’t know, Downfeather. Perhaps now I truly understand the Crow, after so very long. Time gives one perspective, and we are so often defined by the stories we hear. Stories of Firefly and the Rainbow Bridge, already old when I first heard them. Stories of the Princess Equinox, who came forth to cure this city of a plague at the cost of her own life, who stood her ground no matter how much her mother and aunt asked her to return.”

Celestia knew the statue well. It had once been placed down at the city hall, she recalled. An identical one stood in the catacombs at the Castle of the Two Sisters. A tall, slim unicorn, immortalised in black marble. In life, she had been royal blue, with the purest white socks and blaze, her mane the same as her mother’s in youth, though with strands of gray, and her icy blue eyes the most beautiful pair Celestia had ever known.
The inscription on the plinth read, in the delicate and refined writing of her mother;

In Memoriam
Princess Equinox
Healer, Teacher, Beloved Daughter

Celestia pressed a gentle forehoof against it. She’d been there when it was written and the statue erected, comforting a grieving mother despite how little she understood why.

And I don't consider Luna's Daughters to be a prequel per se, more that Celestia Regina is an AU where Luna was around when her daughters passed away instead of being on the moon

Also thanks, I'll let the artist know :twilightsmile:

"Celestia Regina" is, in my reading, a reinterpretation of the characters from Luna's Daughters, rather than any sort of sequel/prequel.

Love it, Sledge. I know I said that on Discord, but: love it.

That it is!

And again, thank you for the help :twilightsmile:

I am so far behind in my reading list that I'm no where near starting "Celestia Regina". But that said, the artwork you have here is wonderful.
