It Is Recommendsday, My Dudes #14 · 3:42am Jun 25th, 2021
Sooooooo the funny thing is when you take a vacation, sometimes the days sort of blend together. Did you know it's Thursday? I only just realized it's Thursday. And it's nearly Friday. Somehow I should've known #13 would mess me up.
Our lead this week's a short one: Dressed To Impress by Eskerata.
It's short, it's sweet, it's painful. The description -
Rarity's father gets the best suit he will ever wear.
- summarizes the whole story very simply and there's not a lot to say beyond that without giving the twist. But it's one of those wonderful stories that uses a small space to hit you with a solid gut-punch. It's also a real sleeper, with only 11 ratings after three and a half years.
The longer of today's two stories is Forget Me Not by Lupine Infernis.
I've said before I'm not really a horror fan - this is one of the few I'm on board for, though. It's got a great burn, starting off in a way that you'd expect a slice of life if you hadn't seen the tags. It picks up a few pages in as things go out of control and what had seemed like a minor irritant suddenly becomes catastrophic. From there things accelerate until the truth of the situation comes out - and then the crew is running pell-mell through Ponyville as the world ends around them. It's plenty creepy throughout, with a good escalation of tension and just enough action to bring it all to a head.
The epilogue is interesting too - the story is complete both with and without it, depending on how you like your endings.

Forget me Not was really good, yes. Our tastes are actually very different, but I enjoyed the heck out of that one a long while ago.
