It Is Recommendsday, My Dudes #169

And if by this point you hadn't figured out the pattern, today we're finally getting around to Gallus. (Who I'm sure would sarcastically comment that of course he's last in line, that's just typical.) I could probably prattle on about it but none of y'all are here to listen to me talk so IT'S BIRB TIME.

So a little behind the scenes: this entire series on the Student Six actually came about after I grabbed some Sandbar stories. It was entirely coincidental: I was just going back through my list and grabbing story pairs that fit together. But after grabbing today's two, I realized it felt wrong to do just him and not the rest.

IT IS TIME FOR BEST YAK.

    YAKS BEST AT STORIES.

EXCEPT FOR THESE AUTHORS WHO ARE NOT YAKS BUT ARE WRITING ABOUT YAKS. SO IS CLOSE ENOUGH.

So hopping along, the next of the Young Six I'm gonna pull out is Smolder. (This time it's only semi-random: remember me mentioning semillon last week? Yeah, I'm having to actually sort this series to make sure not to feature them twice in a row.) So who am I gonna pull out first for Scoota-dragon?

It Is Recommendsday, My Dudes #11 · 5:35pm Jun 2nd, 2021

I'm going to lead off today by pointing out that Pride And Positivity is back for 2021! Expect to see my contribution once Calliope decides to behave a little and let me write instead of obsessing about frankensteining up the perfect cover art.

And in the spirit of the month, let's get out a pair of thematic choices this week!

Our first is Daddy Saw Me Smooching Apple Bloom by Professor Donger.

One of my low-level ships of choice is DiamondBloom - the whole 'bully actually likes the bullied' is a lousy trope but for some reason it just seems to work with those two. It feels right. Also they're hella cute so nyah. This one is an adorable piece as the Apple and Rich families get together for Hearth's Warming. And Diamond Tiara loses her goddamn mind trying to plan out the perfect foolproof way to let their families know that they're dating. Apple Bloom is hilarious as the straight pony to Diamond's lunatic, and it all ties up nicely, sitcom-style.

It's light. It's fluffy. It's cute as hell and Diamond is a wonderful disaster.

EDaddy Saw Me Smooching Apple Bloom
Apple Bloom and Diamond Tiara have been dating for over a month. Diamond has finally decided to come out to her parents in a well thought out and elaborate plan, Apple Bloom has other ideas.

Our second today is Braeburn... You Can Come Out Now by CrackedInkWell.

The story is, in essence, simple. Braeburn is gay. He knows it. His parents know it. He does not know his parents know it, and they're getting kind of frustrated.

Similarly in a sitcom-style, Braeburn's father Johnnieseed Apple attempts to signal to his son that he knows and he's fine with it to get Braeburn out of the closet. The attempts are... well, quite honestly he's an idiot. Each attempt is more stupidly contrived, but that's the comedy of it. It's a farce as Johnnieseed tries desperately to say everything's fine without actually saying things. But it's damned funny to watch him haplessly flail in an attempt to be good by his family, and to watch Braeburn totally miss it all.

Good laughs all around and it warms the heart.

TBraeburn... You Can Come Out Now
A tale about Braeburn's coming out in the most embarrassing way possible, told from the point of view of his father.

Who's Calliope?

5528946

Greek muse of epic poetry - in modern parlance, of writing.

Gotta blame somebody for waking up at 3am going "I should write a story about Trixie and Yona going to speech therapy together."
