SPOILER WARNING: scrapped section of the current chapter of Pony-Me/My Own Reality that I'm working on. · 8:56am Feb 15th, 2021
This is a scrapped rewrite of the section of the chapter I was working on that got partially wiped because I was being smol brain and didn't save before turning off my tablet. I rewrote it a second time in a way that I preferred over this version, so I'ma post the scrapped content here.
Spoiler alert: this snippet is relevant to Pony-Me's plot. If you're fine with potential spoilers, feel free to check it out below the break.
Lisa stared at the ceiling and the long shadows cast against it. Not much had happened following her conversation with the professor. After all, with so many people coming into town from the company, what was there that wasn’t already being handled? It’s not like she’d have the chance to hand out ration buckets again.
…Company.
The word felt… cold. Corporate.
Detached.
Lisa shifted under the thin blanket from her bucket. She was putting too much thought into that. Then again, when didn’t she overthink things these past few days?
She closed her eyes. The muffled sounds of conversation drifted through the walls. Of course Timothy and Samantha were talking again. Probably something to do with the simulations’ status or whatever. Come to think of it, the two did mention something about talking like this while they were in the simulation. Was Samantha the one that Caleb seemed to always be talking to late at night? Julie had a phone, after all, so it wouldn’t be that far-fetched. What would they talk about, anyway? There wasn’t that much that she could think of for the two to bond over.
And then there was the whole thing about her being part of the “original devteam” for the simulation. Lisa turned over. What was it like to write code for something you planned on using to replace reality itself? And on top of that—to think that so many others were logged into the simulations as well—how much did she miss during her own time off in a different world? Obviously, there were the events leading up to some sort of wider launch, but beyond that? She knew nothing. If anything, Timothy probably knew more about that than she herself did, and he’s younger than her!
And what about her parents? The way Professor Argall talked about them made it seem like they were dead, or, at the very least, far too distant to matter anymore. He certainly didn’t seem very comfortable when she was asking about them earlier, that’s for sure. Maybe she could try bugging Samantha about them. She’d understand, right? After all, they were best friends in the simulation.
…Right. Friends.
Even the dropped spoilers are good. Looking forward to reading the final copy.
