[Ellie Accidentally Teaches Pinkie Pie The Word "Fuck"] New Story

This blog will have to double as the Author’s Notes because I could not bring myself to have the Title/Short Description/Long Description/Chapter Title be anything other than what it is now. This also forced me to have it be Mature, even though Teen with the Sex and Profanity tags would probably give it a wider audience, depending on how many readers browse with Mature off. I will not compromise the integrity of my art.

This story could be read as occurring between Part 3 and Part 4 of Scenes From a Life in Equestria, since Ellie begins to know (and annoy) Applejack in Part 3, and is friends with Maud by Part 4.

But it could also be read as the start to a “spur continuity” because I really wanted to write an Ellie x Maud story and I didn’t want to do the dumb fangendernotspecified thing and write out Mudbriar because MAUD WAS SO OBVIOUSLY A MARELOVER BEFORE THE COWARDLY TOY COMPANY FORCED A STRAIGHT SHIP ON US, CELESTIA DAMN IT. So in the spur Ellie will have entered Equestria at the end of Season 7 instead of the end of Season 9, between Maud moving to Ponyville and Maud meeting Mudbriar. I’ll probably write that story as a sequel to this one, though the tone will be way different since it’ll be a Mature Romance with the Sex tag (so clop with characterization and worldbuilding, you know how I do!)

There is actually a small hint that leans this story towards the latter, since in the main continuity, as a teacher at the School of Friendship, Pinkie would be deliberately trying to use “creature” instead of “pony” with a non-pony friend. But I do intend it to be ambiguous, and fit in either.

I hate the whole showing same sex couples in a kids show because white, right-wing, suburban dwelling soccer moms would get bent out of shape. There are ways you can show same sex couples in a kids show, Steven Universe had an entire episode around a same sex marriage. On that same topic, why didn't they show Big Man and Sugar Belle kissing? They could have done the whole Disney-esque G-rated way and just show them pressing their lips together for a couple of seconds. My whole issue with the Maude/Mud Briar thing is that Mud Briar is a flat character. Maude has a wide range of emotions and a dynamic personality, yes her reactions are muted and played for laughs, but she shows the gamut of emotions. That and nobody like Sheldon Cooper, that's what Mud Briar is.

I mean you can and should if you want? It is Fine and Valid. I just personally read Starlight and Maud's interactions in Rock Solid Friendship as the strongest romantic connection in the entire canon series.

Actually, I don't think anything in canon precludes Maud and Mudbriar both being ace or something like that. But I try to ignore Mudbriar as much as I can. Echoing what was said above, Maud has depth if you care to look, Mudbriar is just annoying ripoff Maud.

Oh yeah, I can definitely see Maud and Mudbriar being an ace straight couple, but as a non-ace I worry if that's just me stereotyping aces. Also sex basically doesn't exist in canon so no ponies are precluded from being ace! I do have a fic sitting in the mod queue for two days now that does try to take the "sex basically doesn't exist in canon" thing seriously, and a bit of that is hinted at in the story this blog post is about.

Please do. There are a LOT of high potential F/F ships that literally do not exist. Probably the same for combinations in non-(F/F) ships too but I don't care about those lol. Got a Marble Pie/Trixie Lulamoon somewhere on the backburner but I'm having a hard time reconciling it with Maud Pie not hating Trixie afterwards.

I definitely agree! But it's like I dislike Maud x Mudbriar so much that I have to force myself to pretend it's OK or deliberately look for the reasons it works because otherwise I risk becoming a Weirdo Who Cares Too Much About Ships! Relationships I personally dislike happen in real life all the time. It is all part of the complex tapestry of existence that we must all come to terms with.

Yep, there just aren't a lot of male characters given any real amount of depth because this is theoretically a toy commercial aimed at little girls. And the depthiest ones are pretty aggressively shipped in canon (Shining Armor, whose wedding preparations are also his first appearance, is the most obvious example).
