Once upon a time, I considered writing a buddy-cop story where the old, grizzled cop has a cute unicorn as a partner, but I never did.

Even if I had, it wouldn’t have been as good as Lets Do This’ story, because I wouldn’t have thought to put Tempest Shadow in it, the perfect unicorn for the job.

If the premise of the story and Tempest Shadow hadn’t been enough to sell me on the story (it was), this absolutely clinched the deal:

The officers knew well enough to stay out of the Beast's way. One time, when something had displeased her -- Sam still wasn't quite sure what -- she had simply fixed him with a steady, unblinking gaze. And then casually slammed an armored rear hoof into the patrol car behind her, bucking it over onto its roof without the slightest hint of effort.

That could have been you, her look had said. Remember it.

Furthermore, it’s a language-barrier fic, I think the first one in this whole contest. And Lets Do This has an interesting spin on it which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before.
