Vision problems are causing chapter delay. · 4:53am Sep 15th, 2020
Hey guys, I just got my first new glasses since... uh... 2013. That's a long time, and my particular vision problem has my eyes change randomly within a certain range over time (I'll never go blind, but they dont like to stay one thing for long). This means it took me longer than I thought it would to get used to the new glasses. I had a few days of migraines and the like as my eyes kept trying to focus like they had been to compensate for the bad prescription, leading to objects warping and sliding constantly.
This disguised a major problem with my glasses I didn't notice until about a week after my eyes settled down... and means it's too late for the eye clinic to do anything. It's noting major, but my lenses are now too old and too infused with like body and finger oils to have an anti-reflective coating applied to them. See, in Alaska, medicaid only covers BASIC glasses. Just corrective lenses, nothing more nothing less. Fortunately the basic frames look nice enough, it's not like 10 years go when the insurance covered glasses were always plastic framed dorkmakers with cokebottle lenses. Unfortunately, it turns out that for me, I can't actually spend long periods writing on any kind of screen with glasses that lack anti-reflective coatings. It causes a lot of eye strain, headache, and eventually my vision blurs out and I can't actually read what I am typing anymore.
Also no, I cannot go back to my old glasses. It's very bad for your vision to jump between pairs of glasses like that. This means progress on the next chapter is very slow, but it is happening. I've also ordered a new pair of superior glasses. Shout out to zenni optical (#notsponsored) for selling glasses other people woudl charge 700+ for for less than 60 bucks. Look them up online if you need glasses, I used them for my previous good pair. All you need to do is get your eye prescription and the PD (center of pupils measurements) written down by your eye doc, then input that into zenni when you order and they'll make anything you need.
By anything, I mean I spent 52 bucks and have a nice set of frames in a style I like with lenses that use the power of NANOTECHNOLOGY, SON! to block UV while remaining clear, be non-reflective, repel water and oil to stay clean, cut down on screen glare, and also prevent the upper wavelengths o blue light from causing eye strain, and it comes with free clip on sunglasses in case I want things dimmer on top of the built in UV protection.
Also free shipping.
So seriously, fuck eyedocs for everything but getting your prescription. I'll try and get a chapter out soon and the regular pace should resume in 2-4 weeks depending on how bad Covid regulations slow down production and shipping.
well the glasses industry is a monopoly. This is what causes the price to be so high at the eye doc. And why you can get cheep glasses online because they can not just force a online retailer out. Luxottica is the name of the company that controls almost all the glasses in store brands in the US.
5355507 Zenni Optical is not part of Luxxotica's umbrella of corporations, and has their own manufacturing chain. 10/10 highly reccomend. I'd have been getting glasses from them for the last 7 years if I had insurance and could afford the eye exams. Also Luxottica dosn't just cornor the US market. It's cornered the GLOBAL market. It's also not a US company so the US can't split it up via anti trust laws.

just wanted you to know why a lot of eye doctors store glasses are BS priced. And to spread information on anti consumer practices in the medical field. Not truely the fault of the doctors but they should be more standup people and push them out themselves.
All this talk about glasses just reminds me that I didn't even realize I had an eyesight problem until i started learning to drive... it took me actual years to realize that things shouldn't be that fuzzy just a couple of meters away
Take your time, hoss. Don't hurt yourself for our pony-stories. It would bring great un-mirth to my being if you came down with something.
5355518 Hahaha... it wouldn't be the first time.
5355515 Untrue for me. Both my parents had glasses so the minute school started to explain what genetics were I realised I'd likly need glasses too and asked to be examined. I think my vision was fine till I was around 12, but I can barely remember anything from the first third or so of my life so that's probably wrong.
I sympathize with your struggle with glasses. I’m on disability, and Medicare doesn’t cover vision or dental. I can’t get state help (TN) because I make to much... I had to mortgage my house to pay medical bills, house repairs and my moms medical and funeral expenses. I found out later that I didn’t have to pay her medical bills. Such is life. I’m up to my neck in debt, because I have to buy food on credit, unless I eat 1 meal a day. I’ve had a bad bout of depression over the last few months. That was part of the reason I never answered your other message/ post. I thank you for that info about Zenni Optical.
5356925 My sympathies >< I was where you were 2 years back. Dont worry, it gets better :3
