    Thoughts on Harakiri (1962)

Wow. This was a masterclass in buildup and tension. I knew about Masaki Kobayashi's movie before - a scathing indictment of the samurai and the honor code that they profess to live by - but all the same, watching the movie had me hooked from start to finish. :scootangel:

    Thoughts on Galaxy Quest

Finally getting around to writing up my thoughts on this one. I had heard plenty of good things about it from my parents, though I had yet to see it. Finally, we rung in the new year by watching "Galaxy Quest" with dinner.

I watched Godzilla x Kong yesterday

    And all in all?

It was fun. Good mindless monster mash of a film. Funny how much some of the stuff with Kong in the movie made me think, just a little, of Primal. If only for the lack of dialogue and the importance of character through action and expression.

    Happy Sunday to everybody

Hello all. Just wanted to check in this Sunday (Easter Sunday, for any churchgoing types out there) and wish you all well.

Hope that the year has been okay for everybody. March wasn't the best month for me, I was sick at the start of it and only around the last week have I really felt 100% again, but I'm hoping for things to pick up going forward from here.

    Best wishes, eh?

Funny thing happened today · 9:15pm Jul 4th, 2020

So this morning my folks and I set up a yard sale. Mainly this was my mother and I trying to sell off some old stuff. (And in case anyone starts, we were careful, we cleaned all the stuff before setting it out, and wore masks when talking to customers.)

Most of the stuff I had to sell were old toys of mine from when I was a kid. A few boxes of Lego stuff, some assorted toys - the majority of which was dinosaurs. I was (and still am) a huge dino nerd and I had a veritable ton of those stored away and decided to try and give them a new home.

Well... I did.

That's the funny part, is *how* that happened.

I'd managed to make some money selling off various toys and knickknacks, mostly to a few kids who'd stopped in with their parents - or from grandparents looking for gifts to give the grandkids. But anyway, early afternoon, these two adults stop by, a man and woman, and begin to check out the tables we've set up. The guy comes over to my section, looks at the toy dinos for a minute or two and then asks, "How much for the dinosaurs?"

"Well, the smallest ones are a quarter each, if you want to take a bunch at once, that's a dollar--"

"No, I mean all of them."

I kind of stare blankly. "All of them?"

"All of them."

Before I go any further, I should elaborate... when I said I had a "veritable ton" of dinosaur toys around from my childhood... I wasn't kidding. I had managed to cover nearly two full tables with various toy or collectible dinos: ranging from tie-in Jurassic Park merch, to dinosaur figures that you'd find in a museum gift shop, to those tiny cheap little ones you'd get as a little prize at an arcade or similar place.

And he wanted to buy every single one of them.

So... yeah, I sold him the lot. Packed all the toy dinos on sale into three tote bags, and walked away from that exchange with thirty dollars more for it. Between that and the other items that got purchased, I made nearly seventy-five dollars in all. So, yeah... :yay:

Happy Fourth, everyone.

Hehe, awesome. Happy 4th of July bud.

Wow. That's quite the sale. Guess the kid liked dinosaurs quite a bit as well.

I guess he did. XD

Well, whatever the case, I'm definitely happy for the extra cash! XD

Some things will never get old and I'm glad old toys are one of them.:pinkiehappy:

I don't know who this kid is, but I like him already.

5301275
It wasn't a kid. It was a grown man. He even had a little bit of gray in his facial hair and everything!

But yeah, after the initial shock passed, I was pretty happy about it too. :yay:

5301280
Oh. Must've missed that part. :twilightblush:

Wow, he bought every last dinosaur? Huh. That's a surprise. Cash in your pocket and you managed to clear out a lot of stuff. Nice.

5301429
You said it. Surprised the hell out of me, that's for sure. XD

There's a little kid in everyone, and I think you made his inner little kid's day.

Happy Fourth of July.

5301464
Nicely said. I think I definitely made multiple people's days, honestly. XD

Happy Fourth.

(Man proceeds to sell them at $100,000 as a "museum collection", a la Al of Al's Toy Barn). :trollestia:

Nice sale. Shame to part with childhood mementos, but at least you can obtain something new and potentially just as interesting with that money.

:scootangel: And yes, count me too as a dino fan, plus a fan of pterosaurs and ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs and mosasaurs, oh my!

5302237
(LOL.)

Well said. I'll miss those old toys, but hey, with luck they'll be heading to a new home or place to make someone else happy.

As a *massive* nerd for most anything prehistoric, I am very happy to hear that! :pinkiehappy:
