    New Year New Me

I went to Vanhoover this weekend! It was a ton of fun and I'm excited to go to even more cons.

At said convention I got a commission from Revvi who drew my oc as a mimikyu! It looks super duper cute so I'm going to make it my profile picture.

That's all for now! Hope to see you again soon. The convention made me so hyped about ponies!

How To Write Pinkie Pie: By Tangerine Blast

Everyone says they love how I write Pinkie so here's a guide on how I do that. (Note: This is just how I do it. There's nothing wrong with how other people write her. I'll be speaking like what I'm saying is an objective fact but it's actually just my style. Just to... to get that out of the way.)

    Utter Order

First off, lemme tell you how Nano is going!
As of writing this I'm at 44 thousand words which means I only have to do three thousand the next two days and I will have written a whole novel. Heck, I think I'll even finish the novel since I seem to be at a good wrapping up point. Soon my name will be in published lights!

[Top 5] Grown Up Spikes · 8:01pm May 28th, 2020

Rules:
1. Must be about Spike as the main focus and how growing up has effected him. He can't just be a minor character.
2. Doesn't have to be complete.
3. Has to be rated T or below. I'm a family friendly pussy.

Of all the stories on this list I think Spike’s the oldest and biggest in this one. He’s still Spike, Twilight’s number one assistant and a great friend, but he’s also the Guardian for the Elements of Harmony and that’s a tough job. He has to protect so many ponies at all times and having that much responsibility can make him… greedy. And when he’s greedy he can get big. He gets so big in this story that he punches a Titan the size of a mountain. For Equestria. For his friends. It’s pretty epic.

Hovering before him, Kindle gave the purple dragon a skeptical eye, "Don't kid yourself," she commented coolly, "you're big, but I've seen plenty of bigger dragons at their most greediest."

And that's when the Guardian showed off a fierce smirk, revealing sharp teeth that glistened in the twilight sun as he matched Kindle's gaze, his glowing, green eyes not straying a bit as they pierced directly into her own sapphires.

"And what makes you think I'm at my greediest?" asked the Guardian

Spike shows up ever other dragon in the world with how much he loves his friends. How can you pass up that idea?

A lot of stories about Spike getting old are filled with angst and sadness. While this story has just a smidge of that it’s mostly a nice break for some fluff. Spike wants to give Twilight a present. He wants to be able to hug his big sister again. And nothing in their world or ours is going to stop these two siblings from getting their hugs! Both Twilight and Spike are very in character in how much they love each other. It’s short and sweet and you just feel so good after reading it.

She reached out both forelegs, wings unfurled and full of love. Her feathers, her fur, her hooves, that little puff of fluff on her chest… She hugged him with everything she had, and thanks to his spell, she had a lot.

We all need more cuddles in this world.

This story really captures how much Spike loves his friends. How loyal and kind and amazing he is. He wants to be there for them any moment he can, whenever they need him even if it hurts to see them need him like that. The story gets progressively more sad as it goes on but every chapter is full of Spike just… caring about his friends. It made me cry and broke my heart but, somehow, it didn’t make me feel bad. It was a nice cry.

"Right," Spike said, nodding to himself, and he reached out gingerly and picked her up, cradling her in his arms.

Rainbow Dash stiffened up, glaring up at him. "C'mon, squirt. I'm not a broken doll, here."

Spike frowned at her. "Sure. If you're so fine, then stop me."

Rainbow wriggled weakly in his arms, grunting, and then settled down, wincing and wiping her bloody nose with one hoof. She pouted. "I'll be okay in a minute."

Poor Dashie, good thing she has such a great dragon friend to help her out.

Spike is so completely in character here. He’s old and giant but he’s still just a sweet little guy. He cares a lot about this random kid that comes into his cave and almost instantly feels like her older brother. That is peak Spike. He’s helpful, kind, and sad. But he makes sure to stay lighthearted to not upset any of his friends. He’s so selfless and so so him and all he’s really doing is laying in a cave. That’s some quality writing there.

"Instead of needing my comfort, she laughed,” the Princess continued. “I remember her next words very clearly. She said, ‘If there’s anyone who’s upset at Spike not being able to help, it’s Spike.'"

Spike just wants to help. That's who he is.

It Takes a Village is a classic on this site and it’s easy to see why. Spike is a very good boy. He’s just a big kid with problems most kids go through when growing up. He’s dealing with bullying, his crush moving on, making time for his friends, and other kid stuff. Oh, and a dragon wants to challenge him to a duel to the death while a movement of ponies is trying to kick him out of Equestria. No biggy. Spike can handle it with the help of his friends. It’s exciting. It’s sad. It’s cute. This story has got it all! The perfect story about Spike growing up from a baby dragon into a dragon dragon while also, in a way, growing up as a pony.

"Anyway," he said, "as I said before, I don't actually know all that much about dragon customs, and Twilight hasn't found very much in her books. It looks like dragons don't willingly give out that information. Is it normal for a dragon to hate... well, explaining anything?"

The ambassador's wings twitched. Then he burst out into sibilant, hissing laughter.

"What did I say?" Spike asked, lost.

The ambassador composed himself hurriedly, smoothing back the spines over his sleek head. "Ah," he sighed in his gravelly voice, "now I truly believe you were brought up by ponykind."

"So they do hate explaining anything," Spike said.

He just doesn't get dragons but he tries! He tries so hard!

While I have read a heckin' lot of fanfics I haven't read them all. Please tell me if there's a fanfic you think should have been on this list because I might just not have read it! Or I have and we can talk about the good horse words.

It's the first grown up Spike story I read that handled his growth in a serious manner well, and Spike and Gilda were written amazingly in character for such an early story.
