The Crash Part II: Update · 7:15pm Mar 16th, 2020

Whelp, that's that. Just found out that it is indeed the motherboard of my desktop that's not working and needs to be replaced. I was told it will take at least a week for them to get one delivered, and the whole repair job is going to cost me ~$250. This month just keeps getting more and more expensive.

But y'know what? I'm still feeling positive about this. I finally know what's wrong. I can finally fix what's wrong. And it's waaay cheaper than replacing a gaming rig with its specs, by about a factor of 20. I'll take a week or more on my work laptop without access to all my usual tools if it means that the problem is finally solved.

Yay! It's sad that you have to fork over 250 smackers, but as you said, it's an investment in repairing it for the forseeable future

Probably a blown capacitor. They're always the first thing to fail on a mobo, in my experience, though they're a lot harder to replace these days.

Good luck.

A mobo replacement isn't too bad. :) Good luck!

Are you kidding? :pinkiecrazy: I've got a steam account with 100+ games on it and 10 different consoles with a literal suitcase full of games. I'm much more of a computer gamer now, but I rarely go a day without playing at least an hour, probably two of some game or another. I went and downloaded Ciel Fledge on my Switch two days ago to give me something new to play while waiting for my desktop to get fixed.

I also sometimes use games to keep me writing, as backwards as that might sound. I get a turn-based game of some sort like, say, Civilization, play 10 turns, then write 500 words, then 10 turns, write 500 words, repeat until the day is up. Without even realizing it I'll have made significant progress in both the game and the story. It does require the willpower to stop playing though, and it doesn't work at all for the more involved games like, say, Nier: Automata.

Point is: Yeah, I game. A lot.

Nice. I used to pound out about half a page in between TF2 matches so I can get the approach.

It works really well if you can just maintain the willpower for it.
