Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

Midnight Rising update; Feathered Hearts C&C teaser...

Hey, folks. Here’s my weekly writing update. I’m tagging this as C&C since that’s what the teaser below is about, but the blog is about both it and Unleash the Magic - Midnight Rising.

Prereader verdict on new Midnight Rising chapter is in...

And unfortunately, that verdict is unanimous:

Complaints were: too meta, hard to follow, does nothing to advance the plot, and potentially makes things worse while trying to fix them.

Still waiting on Midnight Rising prereads...

Which are particularly important this time, because the first preread I got back was negative. As it came from AJ_Aficionado, whose opinions I particularly value mostly because he’s more interested in the story than the sex, I tend to give what he said about it credence but still want to hear from everyone else before I start making changes to the new chapter.

Mind changed on removing the griffon arc from Midnight Rising + teaser

After receiving pleas from multiple readers to keep the Enter the Griffon chapters in place, I have decided to do so and go with my original plan, which was to simply offer new readers the chance

Merry Christmas! · 2:55am Dec 27th, 2019

Or a slightly belated Happy Holidays if you prefer. Currently writing this from my parents' place, where I typically spend Christmas. Heading home tomorrow after four days here, but before I go to sleep tonight so I can head out tomorrow--five hour drive home--I figured I'd give folks an Xmas update on things.

I've had at least a bit of a breakthrough, and the next Nightmare Night chapter is well underway, now standing at 4500 words. It'll be a while before it's ready given the holidays and my travel around it, but I finally figured out exactly how Eclipse deals with Nightmarity. I actually wrote myself into a bit of a corner with the last chapter when I had Eclipse proclaim that she knew how to purge The Nightmare from Rarity, but--full disclosure--I didn't actually have an answer at that point as to how. But after giving it some thought, I now know *exactly* how she does it, and it's perfect. Only hint I'll give is that it doesn't involve the Elements of Harmony.

More to look forward to? It's time for the CMC to meet Spike, and Spike and his entire new Brood to meet Eclipse. Things will come to a head between Eclipse and Nightmarity, Eclipse will test Cyber Belle, and Sunset/Sci-Twi will make plans with Delta Requiem. More adult action is also planned, including one major scene. When it will be ready? probably not for a couple weeks yet though I'll aim to have a completed draft by New Years. I don't expect my prereaders will be able to get to it quickly, though, given the tail end of the holidays. Best case scenario is probably the weekend after New Years, but we'll see what happens.

Whether you celebrate Christmas or something else, hope everyone's had a good holiday season, and be looking for some fresh content from me before too long. Firefly and Nightmare Night will continue into the New Year, with the latter aimed for completion this year. Seriously, I never did think it would end up being as long as it's gotten, but it's been a fun story to write. And I hope, to read.
