So due to the fact that Speak has gotten rather... long, I figured now would be a good time to post a Dramatis Personae. I will be updating it periodically as more information is revealed about characters, new characters are added, etc.
Main characters of Speak
Threnody - 14 year old mare pegasus heartmender. Daughter of Stargazer Lily, a former unicorn call mare in Junction R-7. Threnody is the youngest heartmender, and one of the newest recruits to the ranks of Heartmenders in the Followers of the Apocalypse. Threnody is reluctant to start her new assignment working with Blackjack. Operates out of Hoofington. Metaphor: water.
Blackjack - Chronologically aged 27 year old mare unicorn. Mentally aged ?? Formerly the wasteland heroine known as Security. Presently existing in the blank body she had briefly inhabited. She remembers dying on the day of Moonfall, but woke up 4 years after the events of the Battle of the Hoof. Has spent the past 5 years attempting to drink herself to death, and has been the focus of the efforts of the Heartmenders to help her recover from the events of FOE: Project Horizons.
Glitter Bomb - 14 year old (mentally) mare purple alicorn. Her actual age is unknown, but it is theorized that she was a very young filly when she first joined Unity. Glitter Bomb is Threnody’s best (and only) friend in the Followers, as she frequently helps out by assisting older alicorns with deliveries and in their clinics. Glitter’s personality is quite bubbly, and she frequently uses malapropisms in her speech.
Bubblegum - 15 year old earth pony stallion. Bubblegum was picked up by Threnody and company as they made their way out of the Hoof and agreed to travel north with the party. He appears to have knowledge of Blackjack, and has a mysterious past that Threnody has yet to uncover.
Followers of the Apocalypse and Heartmenders
Dry Clean Only - 200? Something year old mare blue alicorn. Glitter Bomb’s ‘minder’, and assistant to Velvet Remedy. Dry is an excellent diplomat, and works well with her mate, Callie.
Caledonia ‘Callie’ Neight - 200+ year old mare green alicorn. Glitter Bomb’s ‘mom’ after Unity broke. Callie’s break from Unity was especially traumatic, leaving her permanently mute. However, she can communicate through telepathy when need be. Callie is one of the Follower’s top field clinicians, having been an A&E doctor at the Old Olneigh Hospital prior to being captured and brought into Unity shortly after the war ended.
Sandalwood - 26 year old mare unicorn heartmender who supervises the heartmenders working with Blackjack. Strawberry Roan coat, auburn mane, brown eyes. Operates out of Hoofington, later Fold. Metaphor: wind.
Blank Slate - 30 year old earth pony stallion heartmender, former escort from Stable 69. Black mane (presently dyed, normal colour is navy blue), light grey coat, blue eyes. Slate worked well with Blackjack, but the constant physical session with her became very, very wearing on him. Operates out of Hoofington, then later Fold. Metaphor: fire.
Willow Glen - 28 year old earth pony mare heartmender, former serf from Elysium. Formed a close relationship with BJ, but was injured after trying to pull too much out of Blackjack at once. Her office is in Manehattan. Metaphor: plants.
Cinnamon Twist - 29 year old batpony mare heartmender, completed Blackjack’s intake with the followers. Has dreams of leading the Heartmenders. Actively working with Minister Boing to press the agendas of the New Lunar Commonwealth. Operates out of the Fluttershy Medical Centre in Hoofington
Trillium - 36 year old pegasus mare. Former Enclave soldier. Married to a batpony stallion named Dusty. Stopped working with BJ after BJ tried to seduce her and offered a 3-some with her ‘darling husband’. Presently working out of Neighvarro when in the sky. Operates out of Silver Springs in the Badlands when on the ground.
Heartshine - 256 year old mare pegasus ghoul heartmender, Clinical director of the Heartmenders. She refuses to work personally with Blackjack, but trusts her Heartmenders to do the job. Is in the process of selecting Sandalwood over Cinnamon. Runs the Followers and the Heartmenders from the Hoof.
Heartshot - 32 year old earth pony stallion. Former ganger from the Halfhearts, was personally healed by Heartshine. She took him under her wing and, and now he operates out of Baltimare. Worked with Blackjack 2 days before getting frustrated that he never saw her sober.
Solis Ignis - 36 year old mare ‘unicorn’ heartmender. Grew up with earth ponies and forgets she can do magic, unless she sets things on fire. The ‘unofficial’ child heartmender, as she frequently works well with kids. Got sent Cinnamon’s assessment of Blackjack, and sent it back, saying ‘this one’s head is made of stupid, and I don’t work with old ponies.’ Works out of Manehattan.
Inner Void ‘Ivy’ - 29 year old mare earth pony heartmender. Goes by ‘Ivy’. Silver mane, deep indigo coat, violet eyes. Tends to work best with ponies who are nearing the end of their lives and fail to see the meaning anymore. Morose and nihilistic to a degree that would make even Nietzche’s heart smile a little bit, she found Blackjack’s outlook on life actually pleasant. Which would never do. Hails from mountain tribes north of Trottingham, and came over with the Applejack’s Rangers that follow Paladin Stronghoof. Speaks with a slight Scottish accent. Masturbates to suffering. Ivy tends to work where she is needed, and is the most mobile of the Heartmenders.
Sprinkles - 30 year old mare earth pony heartmender. Bright pink mane, blue eyes, yellow coat. Sprinkles tends to work well with teenaged ponies, helping them transition into new lives. However, when she tried to work with Blackjack, she realised that she was out of her depth when working with the mare’s trauma. Sprinkles quickly became overwhelmed after working with BJ, and was transferred back to Baltimare.
Blunt Force - 56 year old Trostvian earth pony stallion. Salt and pepper mane, dusky brown coat, dark brown eyes. Blunt hails from the Stalliongrad region of equestria, and is known for being, well, blunt. However, his ability to strike to the heart of the matter works well for ponies, even if his thick Trotsvian accent and random tirades about the rise of the Stalliongrad empire mark him as a bit eccentric. Blunt continues to operate in Stalliongrad, and has a highly successful chem recovery programme, which he likes to trademark as his ‘Well Stop This Doings Things’ approach.
Princess Grace - 34 year old unicorn mare. Grace was made parapeligic following an injury sustained during the Battle of the Hoof. She used the resources of Elysium to financially back the Followers in the early days of their outreach to the wasteland. She has done many things to help coordinate the efforts of the former earth pony serfs to heal the wasteland around the Hoof. Presently, she takes care of Bouillotte and Bacarale, Blackjack’s biological children. She has a soft spot for Threnody, and was very happy to see Threnody help her sister, Charm, recover from the brain damage she sustained in the days prior to the Battle of the Hoof.
Important Characters from the Hoof
Minister Boing - a former Crusader who was injured by Blackjack. Boing became an ardent voice against continuing the legend of Security. She has made many political alliances as the head of the New Lunar Commonwealth Council, representing the Collegiate, to the dismay of Triage.
Nails - 28 year old earth pony stallion. Ganger who raped Blackjack in chapter 33 of Project Horizons. Now brings her food and alcohol. Somehow connected to Cinnamon Twist. Threnody wants to help him get over the guilt that he carries for the rape he carried out, as well as the other sins he committed as a ganger.
Characters from Fold
Buzzsaw - 30 year old earth pony mare. Leader of the Timberjacks. Buzzsaw took over after the death of her father, and worked toward getting the old timber mill working again after the Day of Sunshine and Rainbows. She made what feels like a Faustian bargain with the Family in order to get the parts she needed to get the mill running.
Basalt Breaker - 24 year old earth pony mare. Basalt Breaker always felt a bit alone as she felt like she was the only openly lesbian mare in Fold. Everypony in town knew how Basalt’s barn door swung, but it never bothered them. Basalt has a massive crush on Buzzsaw, but also has been working to try to get the Family out of Fold, fearing that their influence is too strong.
Blue Belle - 25 year old unicorn mare. Married to an earth pony. Blue Belle hates the influence of the Family, and actively works with Basalt Breaker to rid the town of their influence. She pretends to buy into what the Family is selling to keep the saboteurs one step ahead of the game.
Characters from Stable 9
Rhiannon - 32 year old earth pony mare. Rhiannon is the 13th heartmender to be identified, and presently runs Stable 9 as its overmare. Rhiannon has had to make many difficult decisions as overmare, and the deaths of the ponies who were killed during the disastrous first contact with the Steel Rangers weighs heavily on her. However, she is firm in her belief that the magic of friendship can save the wasteland. Metaphor: Stars and stellar phenomena.
Puddle Splasher - Super friendly 15 year old earth pony filly. Has a huge crush on Balmy Breeze. Kissed Threnody. Focusses a bit too much on the idea that her element should be ‘Laughter’.
Balmy Breeze - shy, excitable 15 year old pegasus colt. Big crush on Emerald Flash, follows her around like a little puppy. Puddle has a massive crush on him, though. Teal coat, blond mane, dark blue eyes.
Emerald Flash - Charismatic 15 year old unicorn filly. Loves to take pictures of the world outside the stable. Frequently gets her friends into trouble. Somewhat of a friendly rival with Puddle Splasher. Green coat, brown mane, dark green eyes.
Sagittarius (Sagi) - Brash 16 year old batpony colt. Loves to spend time with his friends, and lead the fliers on races through the upper part of stable 9. Dark blue coat, Grey and white mane, amber eyes.
Sour Drops - snarky 16 year old pegasus filly. Likes to tease Sagi. Claims she’s the better flier, but often tells Sagi he’s pretty good to make him feel better. Snow White coat, Blue eyes, light cyan + strong cyan striped mane.
Hyacinth - 22 year old pegasus mare. Daughter of Solidarity. A bit shell-shocked after the events of Fold. Used to be interested in trade, but currently wants nothing to do with going outside of the stable. Palomino coat, platinum blond mane, Grey eyes.
Solidarity - 44 year old unicorn stallion. Father of Hyacinth and Quiet Violet. Stable constable. Dapplegrey coat, grey mane, violet eyes.
Quiet Violet - 10 year old unicorn filly. Hyacinth’s little sister.
Vetiver - 41 year old earth pony stallion. Husband of Dr. Bright Work. Isn’t a heartmender, but has studied to be a therapist under Rhiannon. Mentors the younger ponies in the stable who may be LGBT. Light gold coat, green eyes, Bay mane
Lunar Skysong - 36 year old pegasus mare. Lunar was a former Enclave researcher who looked into storm magic before getting involved with a military resistance group shortly after Operation Cauterize. The Enclave attempted to brand her as a dashite, only to be wiped out when she set off the bottled lightning magic in her lab. Lunar just barely managed to crash land just outside of the ski lodge that hides Stable 9’s entrance. She healed in Stable 9, and has since taken up duties as the resident librarian.
The Family
Peculiar - 20 year old unicorn stallion. Twin brother of Curiosity. The pair are considered a ‘failed experiment’, genetically. They were bred in an attempt to enhance the telepathic abilities of unicorns. While Peculiar and his brother are able communicate with each other telepathically, they weren’t able to do so with other ponies without magic. Cast out of Stable 44 until he was able to ‘redeem himself’, Peculiar became obsessed with the ideas of Heartmenders after finding references to them in a text in an old hospital in the ruins of Joint Base Lippizzaner-Morgan. An expert at using Equestrian magic and zebra potions, he wants nothing more than to capture Threnody in the hope that adding her genetic lineage to his own will ‘fix’ the problems of his breeding.
Curiosity - 20 year old unicorn stallion. Polar opposite of Peculiar in many respects, he took his exile from Stable 44 with grace, and used it as an opportunity to enhance his own magical skills. He discovered Silvia wandering alone, and took her in, claiming to be her ‘master’. A fantastic manipulator, Curiosity has been working toward overthrowing the Family from within, but his efforts are frequently thwarted by Peculiar’s clumsiness.
Silvia - ???
Sweetness and her brothers - 23 year old unicorn female and three unicorn males. A set of genetically identical quadruplets, Sweetness was the result of an experimental gene splicing technique which deleted her Y-chromosome and doubled the X-chromosome provided by her mother. This resulted in her being able to be an arcane focus for the magic of her brothers. The experiment was considered to be a success. Sweetness was sent to Fold to help Peculiar subdue the earth pony population, however, after an encounter with Threnody, she was informed by the Family that her genetic material would be harvested, but that she herself was not to reproduce due to the ‘horrible scarring’ on her face.
I was not expecting that much characters in the storie even if we don't have seen some the of the characcters a lot and you have make them a little story to each and it's great. Continue like this but seriously don't make a story more long than 500 000 cause even if I really like it, I will love to see when you will end and I hope in a good way and not like Project Horizon with end with everyone died and that's it. The end was good and was following the track of what Blacjack have done all during the story but it was brutal on the mood cuase it was also th end of this so much good story

That's a lot of characters. Especially the last chapter added a whole bunch of new names. That said, some ponies are missing from that list. Pine Sap, the Stable teacher and the griffon chef for example.

Younger than I expected. Thought he would be around sixty. 44 isn’t old.
Ok so she’s not a fucked-up Family experiment. But if she’s not a robot (or a synth) then somepony still did something fucked-up to her. Can't wait to learn more about her.
They do know that scars aren't hereditary, right? Guess they just didn't like her.

Huh. A lot of information in here which I don't think has been spelled out in the story proper yet. Never would've guessed from his previous appearance that Curiosity was working against the Family, for instance.
This is odd. You'd think that ponies who make such a big deal about genetics and spend all their lives studying them would know that scars aren't hereditary.
I hope this story is still going,i miss the updates :(
