Today, my younger cat, Ruby, passed away.
It came out of literal nowhere. She was perfectly healthy a little more than a week ago, and then this weekend we noticed she was having trouble breathing. Upon taking her to the vet, they realized that her chest was filling up with fluid and she had to be taken to the animal hospital. They drained the fluid, confirmed that it wasn't cancer, but also that is wasn't a heart problem. Which meant they had no idea what was causing her to be sick. All they could do was drain the fluid and try to do small things to help her. We thought we might be able to bring her home today or tomorrow but...
We believe her lung was punctured, and she passed away just an hour or two ago.
In truth, it was probably better this way. Even if she had been ok, she was still much weaker and tired so much more easily than she had before due to the lung compression, and if we did bring her home, we would have all just been worried about her all the time. It's horrible that's she's gone, but I got to say goodbye two days ago, and she went out without any pain, so that's probably all I could ask for in the end.
A blessing and a curse: she's gone, but she passed quickly and painlessly.

I'm terribly sorry! You know, three years ago I lost my last dog, Molly, who was a beautiful black labrador retriever (she was 17 at the time of her death). Believe me in reflecting on this, i know exactly what you're going through.
