My Books and How to Get Them · 10:01pm Jul 11th, 2019

I recently finished 2 books:  The Worst of Bad Horse (described here) and Stupid Unicorn (a picture book).  Both will be available both at Bronycon, and by mail (which costs more because shipping).  (I might possibly have copies at Trotcon or Capclave this month, but I won't be selling them in the dealer's room.)

Below I describe Stupid Unicorn, and then there's a Google Form survey to fill out if you want to get either book, in print or epub.

Stupid Unicorn

My father is old and very confused, and the only thing he can still do by himself is to look at the pictures in magazines.  I thought, "There should be picture books for both kids and adults who would like to read, but get confused by a lot of words."
So I wrote "Stupid Unicorn."  The story is about an old man whose wife has died, and how a unicorn helps him to stop feeling guilty for not appreciating her enough while she was alive.  Illustrations are by Duane Leslie. I'll have copies of the finished book to sell at Bronycon, and I'll post a free electronic version online sometime after that.
I still need to pay Duane $500 for 38 illustrations.  I created a kickstarter to help with that. It's still in the approval process.  I'll post on my blog when it's live.

Do you want to buy either?

If so, please fill out this Google Form, so I know how many copies to order.

That sounds like a noble book cause.

Tell Duane they're awesome. I haz a grandchild who is going to get a bedtime book now :)

Stupid Unicorn looks great!

Wow, only $5? Definitely getting a couple.

Does the Saleswoman share an apartment with Foamy the Squirrel?

Should we fill out the survey even if we've already filled out the Bronycon Bookstore survey? I don't want to accidentally double up on my order.

Good question. Yes, because Stupid Unicorn wasn't listed in the earlier survey, and because I believe people who answer "yes" here more than the people who filled out the earlier survey with no knowledge of what was in the book. There's a question at the end of the survey asking whether you already said you'd buy "Worst of Bad Horse" on RBDash47's survey.

5087625 There is a similarity. But you'd have to ask the artist. :ajsmug:

I'll look forward to picking up both in Baltimore!

5093343 You realize you can read The Worst of Bad Horse online right now? You're one of my Patreons at the "can read and comment on Bad Horse's drafts and works in progress" level, so you're on the access control lists for them. Click thru to my blog describing WOBH, and click on any of the links in the index. You should be able to read and comment on all of them except for a couple that are unpublished stories on fimfiction. I think the password for them is "password".

It might not be easy to get a copy at the con. I printed only as many as I got responses on my survey. In retrospect, I did my readers a disservice by trying to do them a service, by selling the books at the cost of production. That meant that I can't afford to have unsold copies, so I printed only as many as were asked for. Presuming that no one else browsing the bookstore will buy one. If I'd charged a few dollars more, I would have had enough leeway to print more books.

It's one of the things I'd like a physical copy of, if possible. Among other aspects, I find it helps me actually read things rather than enter a state of permanent procrastination (which, incidentally, led to missing the poll originally since I hadn't checked my feed for over a week). If it works out I can get one, great; if not, these things happen.
